My 5 Absolute Favs: Baby Edition

You know how all your friends get married around the same time and then they start popping out kids at the same time? Well, over the weekend I went to my forth baby shower in about as many months.

That’s a lot of fuzzy sleepers, breast pump accessories and cute little socks!

At every shower, conversations about the “I just couldn’t live without them” items come up and I pretty much sound like a broken record with my suggestions. So, instead of repeating them time and time again, I figure I’d just put a list together!

Whether you’re having a baby soon, or if you have a half-dozen baby showers on your calendar… go buy them up (I included Amazon.com links because they are usually cheapest) and be the know-it-all hero of what a baby actually needs!

Baby Anti Monkey Butt Cream
Everyone knows that you need to include some diaper rash cream on your registry, but it’s easy to get lost with the dozens of types out there. I think I received 4 or 5 different kinds of cream at my baby shower, but our absolute favorite is the Baby Anti Monkey Butt Cream.

This stuff is magic and can cure even the worst looking red hiney in a couple applications. We also use it all the time in the winter to keep Jack’s frequently pink windburn cheeks (the upper ones, not the lower ones) soft and supple. If Jack has a cold for a few days and his under-nose area is red and raw from wiping at his nose, I smooth on a little of the cream before bedtime and he is as good as new by morning. It is amazing!

Mommy’s Bliss Gripe Water
When your baby is screaming for no reason and nothing helps, this is the answer. I don’t care how many times I tried to bicycle Jack’s legs and pat his back, when he had gas in his stomach nothing would help.

Bring on the Gripe Water, I swear within a few minutes he’d be feeling better and immediately go to sleep. Make sure to have this on hand before you need it though, not when you’re running around in a sleep deprived state trying to just stop your infant from screaming.

WubbaNub Pacifier
If you need a pacifier, go for the WubbaNub. The cute, fuzzy little animal can lay on your infant’s chest so that when they inevitably spit the paci out it doesn’t go too far. You can throw it in the dishwasher to keep it clean and it will last for years.

Jack had his little giraffe since he got out of the hospital and when he turned 2 ½ I cut the paci off of it and he STILL will occasionally hold it while he’s sleeping. That’s worth $13 to me!

Baltic Amber Teething Necklace
Okay, I admit that putting a special necklace on your infant to help with teething pain sounds like mumbo-jumbo… but I swear this worked for Jack. You can google it and read up on it (and I encourage you to make an educated decision), but when your kid is in teething pain you will pretty much try anything.

I started out having the beads around Jack’s neck, but then decided I was more comfortable with it looped twice around his ankle. He wore it through his toughest teething pain and I really do think that it worked wonders.

Citrus Lane Box Subscription
Citrus Lane was the very first box subscription I ever tried and I still think it is one of the best. Jack got a box every single month for about two years (you can check out some of my reviews here) and the toys that came are still in heavy rotation at our house.

Some of our favorites: teething toys, musical instruments, books, straw cups, adorable plates, travel snack containers, bath toys, toddler backpacks and more. This is also a really fun baby shower gift for the expecting mom, because who doesn’t like getting surprise gifts in the mail?! If you’d like to try it out, use my special link and get 50% off your first box.

Do you have a “go-to” baby shower gift that you always give? Do you have an item that you couldn’t live without that needs to be added to this list?

  1. This is SUCH a helpful post! I don’t have children and never know the best thing to choose off a registry. This will help me avoid being “the clueless one who doesn’t have a kid.” Thank you!!

  2. Loved this! I just attended a shower this weekend and was pretty clueless. I usually get the hooded towels because I remember loving the one I had growing up! Thanks!
