Balance… 5 months in

Instead of making resolutions for 2016, I decided to simplify it a little and give myself just one idea to work towards: Balance.

As I said back in January, I’m an all-or-nothing kind of girl. I swing from eating super healthy to eating like a human trashcan. I will work out every day… or not at all for months. I get buried in work, freelance writing and blog stuff and literally have to schedule dinner with girlfriends a month out.

If there is something I need in my life, it is balance.

Balance

Now that we are 5 months into the year, I thought it would be a good time to check in and see how I’m doing.

Awful.
I’m doing absolutely awful at having any sort of balance in my life.

Some of it isn’t really my fault though. At work my previous supervisor left in the Fall and I’ve been covering the entire department myself for 6 months. I’ve had a little help from our Executive Director on our DC events (thank goodness!), but I’ve been handling everything at our other two locations, as well as most of the emails/inquires/phone calls/decisions/etc that would have gone to my supervisor.

Needless to say, I’m overextended and I’m exhausted. I love my blog, but there are even days where I wonder why I’m pushing myself even harder to do this. I’ve had to cut back on freelance work and even took a couple months off from contributing to BlogHer (which is something I really do love and hope to be able to return to ASAP).

The good news is that I just hired two new people for my department. I’m planning on May being a ‘training period’ to get them both comfortable with their jobs before throwing them into everything. By June though… I’m crossing my fingers that I will see some of that Balance on the horizon!

As for eating healthy and working out. Yeah, none of that has been happening either.

However, I do have plans to do another 21 Day Fix challenge in a couple weeks, which is SO NEEDED right now. I also have started signing up for 5k’s now that the weather is getting warmer and ran my first one of 2016 this past Saturday.

So yeah, there hasn’t been a lot of balance in my life for the last 5 months, but I’m going to give myself a do-over. Starting… right now.

How about you… are you sticking with your resolutions this year? Did you choose a word of the year that you are working on?

  1. I did choose a word but I bet that I’m also doing awful because I don’t even remember what it was anymore. I looked through LeeAnne’s Instagram and Facebook and couldn’t find it. It was probably something about needing to listen to myself more. I feel I’ve done pretty well with that this year. I’ve been drawn towards more gentle workouts like yoga and I’ve listened to my body instead of forcing it to go balls-to-the-walls when it just doesn’t feel right. As far as eating.. I also “swing from eating super healthy to eating like a human trashcan.” I’m working on that, but it’s a challenge for sure.

    1. This is what you wrote on my January post: “I chose two words (Pay Attention) which could be cut down to one: Mindful.” So it sounds like you’re on the right track! =)

      1. I would give myself an A-/B+ with it for the exercise part, and a C-/D for the food part. Food is just so freaking good.

  2. Love your idea about “21 Day Fix challenge”. I have been doing these types of challenges myself and the results are impressive.
Good luck in trainings the new hires.

  3. There’s so much that goes into balancing the life and it can definitely be really hard to balance everything out because everyone has so much going on these days and there’s SO MANY distractions! ! xx adaatude.com

  4. Joules! I could have written most of this myself! My word of this year is also balance and I am a very all or nothing person too. I feel like my life is constantly out of balance. I’m just trying to give myself grace and keep trying. We can do it!!!
