Q & A Fun

For those of you who saw my status updates on Facebook or Twitter, you know that I’m not exactly at 100% today. Actually, I’m probably not even at 40% — Jack, my 7 ½ month old came down with his first cold last night. I knew it was going to happen sometime; it just ended up happening the day after he started childcare. Darn.

So I kicked my loving husband out to the air mattress in the guest room and had Jack in bed with me all night. Which means that as he moaned and whined with each breath, I was right there to rub his hair and pat his back. He seemed to be feeling a little teeny bit better this morning, which is why I slapped on some makeup and drove myself to work, leaving the husband home to deal with the overflowing boogies. Sorry honey!

I don’t want to neglect my awesome readers though, which is why I’m dedicating today’s lunch break to answering your burning questions. Actually, let me rephrase that. Answering the burning questions that you don’t know that I know you had. Was that clearer? Um…probably not.

One of the cool things about having a blog is that you can see the terms that people enter in the search engine that leads them to you. I already talked about some of the perv people who find my site by searching for equestrian porn, well there are also some people who ask Google a full question that they want answered. I see the questions when I check my account and typically answer them in my head, or out loud and forget that I’ve spoken out loud. But whatever, I totally talk to myself.

Q & A with Joules:

Should I spray paint or brush paint Ikea spice racks?
So when I painted my spice racks I did a little of both, just because I happened to have a paint can leftover from another project. However, I highly recommend that you just use spray paint when doing this kind of project. The paint goes on thinner and looks much more polished with less drips. Also, the paint in the can was so much more sticky that it kind of made a mess of my hands, the table I painted on, my legs and possibly the bottom of one of my feet.

Should I have a baby?
If you’re asking google whether you should have a baby, the answer is probably no. This is a question that can only be answered by you. Keep in mind that even people who do really want a baby are only about 80% sure that’s what they want because you truly have no idea what it’s like to have your own child until it happens. Yes, it can be extremely hard, but it can also be incredibly awesome. My only advice to those trying to decide if they are mommy or daddy material is to take a look around and make sure you have a good support system for you and your child. Also, a saving account with some money in it helps you not have a total freak out when it’s time to buy formula AGAIN.

What kind of birthday gift do you want from me?
Oh, that is so sweet – thank you so much for asking! If I want to take the trying to be a good person road, I’d stick with this year’s birthday request of asking everyone to please have their moles checked by a dermatologist. But if you’re truly asking because you’re just dying to buy me a present (this goes for the husband too…), here are some of my favorite things:

  • A gift certificate for a massage or other spa service that would force me to actually treat myself.
  • Something to do with traveling, maybe plan a day trip of fun things that we can do together. Or you know, a cruise or vacation somewhere on a beautiful beach. If you’re incredibly rich I mean, I probably wouldn’t say no…
  • Fun and funky jewelry – there are usually some fun (yet affordable) picks at Ann Taylor Loft, Fossil and Banana Republic.
  • Something yummy – the husband recently surprised me with chocolate covered strawberries and wine. Delish!
  • Something beautiful that I wouldn’t necessarily buy myself. This would include pretty much anything from Anthropologie, West Elm, World Market or off of Etsy.

FYI, these gift ideas don’t only work for me, maybe one of these suggestions will work out well for someone on your holiday list this year!

What can I say to my Nana at her funeral?
First off, I’m so sorry to hear of your Nana’s passing. My own Nana passed away earlier this year which I’m sure is how you found my blog. When you have to say goodbye to someone special in your life, don’t put too much pressure on yourself to say the exact right thing to them at their funeral. Just speak from the heart and always end it with, “I love you”.

How can I say goodbye to a coworker I hate?
If you absolutely despise someone, but you feel like it would be best to say goodbye in a civil manner on your way out, just keep it simple. You don’t need to lie to them and say that you’ve really enjoyed working with them or that you’re going to miss them – um, you’re NOT. You’re probably doing a happy little dance that you never need to see their stupid face again, am I right? Just put a smile on your face and just say goodbye. You can roll your eyes once you’re out of their sight, I won’t tell. Oh, unless you mean “say goodbye” because they’ve passed away. Then just keep your mouth shut and don’t say anything!

So how about you guys, anyone have any burning questions that they want answered?

    1. A. Yes. Because according to Jack the boogie sucker is a monster trying to steal all the happiness and laughter out of your life and/or eat your soul. Have you tried a Neti pot? I haven’t tried one myself, but I’ve heard good things about them.

      1. I have tried a neti pot. It’s alright. The sensation of water going in one nostril and out the other is a little bizarre. It doesn’t help me too much, but that’s probably because my congestion is usually more swelling than mucus (Oh lord this conversation has taken a turn for the weird, hasn’t it?!) Hope Jack-a-Saurus is feeling better soon. (That’s what I call my ‘nephew’ Jack… I’m sure your Jack would love it if he knew what dinosaurs were.)
