I shared with you all back in the winter that I had decided to go back to school to get my Master’s degree. I’m working on an online program where I will earn my Master’s in Management with a focus on Marketing.
I started the program last summer with a required 0 credit class, followed by a 6 credit course in the fall and two 3 credit courses in the spring. I also stacked on a 0 credit pre-requisite in the spring which lasted 5 weeks to prepare me for one of my summer courses.
As of this week, I am officially done with my spring classes… which means I’m 12 credits down with just 24 credits to go! With a full 1/3 of the program behind me, I wanted to give you a little update.
First off, I’m still embracing my inner nerd and enjoying each of my classes.
It was more challenging to juggle two 3 credit courses (and a 0 credit course) than just to do the 6 credit course. Dueling syllabuses meant that some weeks were super crazy with multiple papers and projects due at the same time (while still working my full-time job and wrangling my blog, husband and kid). It was do-able though and I got through it.
The one complaint I have is the whole idea of group projects for an online program. I had one in the fall and it was such a pain the butt; however the group project I did for one of my spring classes was absolute hell. There were four of us in the group, so we split the project up between each of us. Some people followed the timeline and had their poo together… some did not. I ended up having to rewrite a whole section because one of the group members did his part wrong. I probably could have gone all Type A on the paper and rewrote the whole thing, but I didn’t. I guess I should have though, because it was 30% of my grade and really brought down my total points for that class.
However, with that being said… I’m still carrying a 4.0 so far in the program! My husband is my biggest cheerleader and I’m super proud of myself for somehow keeping all the balls juggling in the air with this program and everything else going on. I don’t know if I’ll keep my GPA through the summer because one of the Finance classes is totally going to kick my butt, but I’ll try!
Do you have a success that you want to share in the comments? Come on, brag a little!
