The internet has been proclaiming that blogging is dying for the last 5 years. Or maybe even more. With lots of other social media platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, etc, people have been moving towards the micro-blogging of their thoughts. Lots of those rockstar bloggers have closed shop. Lots of people have just gotten bored of reading blogs.
I started Pocketful of Joules over 7 years ago… and I get it.
Over the past 7 years, I grew a pretty big following and then it ebbed and flowed and has slowly been decreasing over the past few years. The way readers interact with blogs has changed too. It was typical to get lots of comments on a blog post… and now I have many posts that have lots of visitors, but they don’t get even one comment. I used to check my stats every single day to make sure everything was *okay* with my numbers. Now, I don’t really bother and may check Google Analytics a few times a month.
Over the past 7 years, I have published 1,007 posts.
And I still enjoy it.
However, I don’t really enjoy a lot of what blogging has become. There are SO MANY bloggers that are basically just trying to sell, sell, sell shit to you so that they can make money. There are lots of copy-cat bloggers out there who don’t bother to put in any of the work. There are so many bloggers that are just boring (or unable to write a proper sentence). And don’t even get me started on those super curated fake-ass Instagram accounts.
A few years ago, I read probably 20 blogs regularly. Now, that number is down to just 6 blogs. I haven’t added a new blog to my list in probably a year.
I honestly don’t know how much longer I’ll be blogging. I guess as long as I still enjoy it.
So, here are my questions for you:
1. What are your thoughts on the death of blogging?
2. Do you still enjoy visiting Pocketful of Joules?
3. What other blogs do you read?
