Trunk Club Review: My ‘Bring on Spring’ Trunk

In true Maryland fashion, spring came late and now it’s basically a spring/summer hybrid! I’m happy with it though and totally celebrating the fact that I can finally pack away my fleece-lined tights. It’s been a while since I’ve gotten a Trunk Club trunk from my stylist, so I put in an order for a ‘Bring on Spring’ Trunk of warm weather goodies!

If you’ve been on the fence about trying Trunk Club, now would be a great time to ask for a springy trunk. Or, if you have lots of weddings on the horizon (like I do), you can ask a stylist to put together a super edited ‘wedding guest’ Trunk based on your likes!

If you’d like to work with my stylist and have Dana style a Trunk for you, I have her linked in my referral code here: https://www.trunkclub.com/invite/QZFJ33 (Please note: if you use my referral link it will cost you nothing extra and it earns me a small amount to go towards items in my next Trunk).

Anyways, I have been purging and purging a lot of my clothes, so I was looking to add a few new pieces back into my wardrobe. I wanted to be really selective though… so these same pieces wouldn’t be purged in my next round of ‘GET IT OUT OF MY HOUSE’ purging.

I didn’t really give Dana much direction though, besides ‘I want spring stuff’ so I was curious to see what she’d send over for me to try!

(1) BP 53mm Square Sunglasses, $14. (2) Prive Revaux The Hepburn Cat Eye Sunglasses, $29.95, (3) Wit & Wisdom Ab-solution Cuffed Denim Shorts, $58, (4) Leith Side Knot Tee, $45, (5) Keds for Kate Spade New York Glitter Sneaker, $85, (6) June & Hudson Wrap Maxi Dress, $55, (7) Leith Ruffle Wrap Maxi Dress, $79, (8) DL1961 Renee Cuff Denim Shorts, $118, (9) Trouve Side Tie Top, $69, (10) Halogen Plaid Wrap Pencil Skirt, $79, (11) Madewell Tie Front Shirt, $75, (12) JCrew Easy Pocket Cotton Knit Stripe Dress, $69.50.

Such a nice mix of basics, interesting pieces and accessories! As always, I dug into the box and tried on every single thing in the box. Then, I narrow down my choices to a pile of my favorites and photograph them for you all to see!

Here are my favorites from this Trunk:

Outfit 1: 6

This pretty yellow dress is a true wrap dress that opens all the way in the front and then has a tie waist so you can adjust it to your body. The ruffles are a super pretty detail and I like how they follow the neckline. The top fits well for my more ‘robust’ sized chest, however I’d probably add a modesty snap to make sure my bra doesn’t suddenly make an appearance (after 4 years, this is still one of my most popular posts). I normally don’t like high/low hems, but it’s working on this look! I paired the dress with my Ugg wedges that Trunk Club sent me over 2 years ago. I’m 5’7″ and find the length really good for my height.

Outfit 2:  1 + 3 + 4 + 5

This look is a super cute look that is a bit nicer than my normal weekend attire. These sunglasses are more of a square shape… which I like. The shorts are a bit too fitted for me, but I really love the really cool cut of the top. I never would have picked this out for myself, but the pretty muted color, gathered waist and fluttery sleeves are just so pretty. Finishing up the look is these fantastic glitter Keds + Kate Spade sneakers. I could totally see me running errands, going out to lunch with my girlfriends or hitting up a winery for wine tasting in this look!

Outfit 3: 2 + 3 + 5 + 11

For this outfit, I switched in the white button up top and the Cat Eye sunglasses. I normally hate all button up tops, but this one is made out of a super soft cotton and actually has room for boobs. I feel very off-duty Hollywood actress in this look. Looking at the photos, I kind of love this outfit. But in real life, I know that if I bought this top it would just sit in my closet untouched.

Mini reviews of the other items in 8 words or less:

Item 7 – Not enough fabric to close over my boobs.
Item 8 – Way too short — denim diaper.
Item 9 – Weirdly dumpy.
Item 10 – Great fabric, but crooked front.
Item 12 – So awful. And hot.

Trunk Finalists

As much as I love the glittery sneakers, I do have a few pairs of ‘cute sneakers’ that meet that need in my closet (including a pair with hula girls). That leaves me with four favorites from this Trunk:

#1 BP 53mm Square Sunglasses, $14
#2 Prive Revaux The Hepburn Cat Eye Sunglasses, $29.95
#4 Leith Side Knot Tee, $45
#6 June & Hudson Wrap Maxi Dress, $55

I think both pairs of sunglasses are super adorable, but I’m not sure which one I should buy! Help me decide:

Remix from my Closet
When buying new items, I like to mix them in with stuff I already own to see if I’ll be able to get enough wear out of them to justify the purchase.

Outfit on the left: paired with my camo skinny pants from my April 2017 Trunk and Marigold Rothy’s.

Outfit on the right: paired with thrifted sandals and my favorite pair of jean shorts (found here for $27).

Now that I’m looking at the photos, I’m seeing the pulling around the chest area. Sigh. Maybe this one isn’t a keeper after all.

What do you think? Help me decide!

5/25/18: Thank you all for your feedback! I ended up purchasing the cat eye sunglasses and yellow wrap dress. I received my invoice today and the dress ended up going on sale, so I got it for $32.97!

  1. I think the sunglasses (cat eye) and wrap dress are great!
I don’t care for the pinkish top-it is not very flattering.

  2. The sunglasses are both cute. The cat-eyes are the cutest, though. The dress is a keeper, the shirt not so much… you’re right about the pulling. Have a super day 🙂

  3. The yellow dress is so pretty and flattering. It’s the wrap style that you love while still being somewhat different from other dresses you have shown before. And the cat eye sunglasses are adorable. The shape is great for your face, and the color complements your hair and complexion.
