With a 3 ½ year old in the house, you’d better believe that I’ve become quite familiar with kid television shows. There are tons to choose from, but I try to make sure that the shows are appropriate for our son, entertaining for us, and also have a good message. So, when I was recently given the opportunity to watch the Amazon Original Series “Wishenpoof,” I jumped at the offer. The series will be available for Prime members on August 14th, but we were able to get a sneak peek last weekend. I’ve loved Amazon Prime for a while, but only recently realized that my membership includes thousands of movies and television shows!

I guess I’d better start taking advantage of that…

“Wishenpoof” is an animated preschool series that focuses on a girl named Bianca, who solves life’s problems in her own creative ways, including magic. The theme of the show is that with magic – or without – we all have the power to make good choices. The creator, Angela Santomero, is also behind “Super Why” which we LOVE in our house.

Jack and I were able to watch a couple episodes over the weekend:

Welcome to Wish World
This episode sets up the series by introducing you to the characters and the rules for how their wish magic works. The main character, Bianca, talks to viewers through the screen a lot, which Jack is totally in to.

I liked that during a moment where Bianca and her teddy bear friend, Bob, were trying to open a treasure chest, it was determined that “open, please” were the magic words that worked. We have been continuously working on using “please” in our house, so I was happy that they reinforced our home lessons.

The second part of the episode focused on a school talent contest, believing in yourself and supporting your friends to believe in themselves too. So, once again it was a nice lesson presented in a kid-appropriate way. Jack also really liked the recurring joke that Bianca would accidentally wish herself into a monkey suit. You should have seen him giggling every time it happened.

Bianca Gets Creative
For the second episode, the theme was that if something isn’t right you should say something. This was shown a couple different ways throughout the episode to drive the theme home. The scene that really seemed to interest Jack was when Bianca was playing at school with her two friends, Violet and Penelope. Penelope was being creative by drawing a purple horse with pink hooves, but Violet insisted that horses are not purple.

The show used this situation to show that words can be hurtful. Bianca used the lesson from earlier in the show about saying something to speak to Violet and support her friend. At home with Jack, we have been talking about ‘not nice’ words hurting people’s feelings, so it was interesting that this episode of Wishenpoof dealt with a way to handle the situation.

It was really cool for us to check out this new show before it is released to the world on Amazon Prime later this week. If you’re interested in watching the Amazon Original Series, Wishenpoof, it will be available to all Prime members on Friday!
