In Dire Need of Good Reads

I’ve talked about how I’m a total bookworm before, but I’m having some trouble with my worminess.

The last few books I’ve read haven’t really done it for me and I’m dying for a new book or series that will excite me.

I have Amazon Unlimited for my kindle (you can find Reviewing Kindle Unlimited here), so there are a bunch of books to choose from… I’m just feeling a bit trigger shy after my last few choices bombed.

The last series I read and really liked was the The Origin Mystery trilogy (The Atlantis Gene, The Atlantis Plague and The Atlantis World). I recently finished the Jaime Baker trilogy (start with Being Jaime Baker) which was great if you like the supernatural world and a little bit of romance. I also drool over basically everything by Gina LaManna and devour her Lacey Luzzi books the moment they come out (start with Sprinkled). Due to the cute previews on TV, I read Me Before You (loved it) and After You (didn’t love it) by Jojo Moyes.

I’m down with YA books like Harry Potter and the Hunger Games. I also like romance, lots of silly chick lit and suspense novels.

So, now I need your help. What have you read lately that you really loved? Bonus points if it’s available on Kindle Unlimited!

6/15/16 Update: You guys are awesome and I really appreciate every single recommendation! Please, feel free to keep them coming. There were also a bunch of recommendations on my Facebook page, if you want to check them out.

  1. Not necessarily on Kindle Unlimited (so no bonus points) but the Fox and O’Hare series from Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg is a funny caper type series (over the top in some places–so really need a suspension of disbelief). It is written by Evanovich and Goldberg who was a writer on “Monk” the TV series. Really fun. The best part is that there are two short stories that really give the background and it is a good way to test the waters to see if they might be for you.

    1. I love Janet Evanovich (and if you like her too, totally check out the Lacey Luzzi books I posted above) and will definitely need to check out the Lee Goldberg books!

  2. A couple of my favorite books have been by Neil Gaiman. Neverwhere and Stardust were by far my favorites.

  3. Some of my favorites:
The Rachael O’Brien series by Paisley Ray
    Delicious! by Ruth Reichl
    7 by Jen Hatmaker
The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henriquez
Assuming you’ve already read the Divergent series if you’re read the Hunger Games?
Girls in White Dresses by Jennifer Close was a fun read
    Yes Please by Amy Poehler
The Walt Longmire series by Craig Johnson (now a TV show)
The Jack Daniels series by JA Konrath
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
The Josiah Reynolds series by Abigail Keam (though it is starting to go downhill….)
The early Jessica Sorensen books are YA/scifi and interesting
The Martian by Andy Weir (good movie, even better book!)
The Storied Life of AJ Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin is one of my all-time favorites!
I enjoyed the Murder She Baked series by Joanne Fluke until the most recent few, so you could get a good 15 books out of it at least! 😉
The Last Girl by Joe Hart was really interesting…first book in a new trilogy, so the waiting for book 2 is torture!

    1. Book nerd here, and I’ve read and enjoyed at least 7 of Jennie’s suggestions, so clearly she’s got good taste. Really though, Snickerdoodle, whatcha in the mood for? I’ll make you a custom listy-list. You want beach reads or something a little heftier?

        1. Tee hee my shouty friend! I’m opening my mind and I’m up for anything HAPPY. I can’t deal with sadness, tears and drama right now. Beach reads are always loved!

  4. I’m in the middle of reading The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater and highly recommend it! It’s YA, supernatural, romance…fun!

  5. Anything written by Lisa Clark O’Neill – she’s amazing! The best beach reads!

And if you haven’t read the Outlander Series yet…. what are you waiting for?

  6. I second AJ Fikry! It was my favorite book I’ve read all year. I did a book linkup with at least 40 other bloggers yesterday so you should check it out – I always find SOOOO many things there! I don’t usually find things on Kindle Unlimited, but I use my library’s Overdrive app and get free books that way.

    1. I haven’t tried to borrow from my library before, but I really want to. Last time I looked, I was just kind of overwhelmed at how to make it happen! I’ll have to check out your linkup!

  7. I really only have Romance genre suggestions since I tend to find more Romance books than anything else on Kindle Unlimited (KU). The authors I’ve enjoyed are:
    – J.S. Scott (specifically The Billionaire’s Obsession series, but her others are good too).
    – Marie Hall’s “Kingdom” series. It’s not available on KU but the first 3 books are available as a box set for free and the rest are under 5 dollars.
    – Jennifer Blackstream (“Blood Prince” series / same as above … not available on KU but the first 3 books are in a box set for free and the rest are about 4 dollars).
    – Harmony Raines (Shifter Romances mostly, all avail. on KU)
    – Milly Taiden (Shifter Romances mostly, all avail. on KU)
    – Catherine Bybee (“Weekday Brides” contemp. romance, avail on KU).
    – Cameron Jace (“The Grimm Diaries” and “Insanity” / not all are available in KU, but the ones that aren’t are inexpensive / more YA than Adult content).
    – And for the more graphic/taboo romances, Olivia Hawthorne and Selena Kitt (you have to be careful though, some of these were too much even for me, but almost their entire works are available on KU so you can try different ones and see what you like.) Hope this was helpful!
