Copycat Look: Anthropologie Outfit

I’m not sure if this is going to become a THING on my blog, but I thought it might be fun to find a look that I loved and then try to copy it for my body type and budget. If you like it, let me know and I’ll keep it up!

When I was paging thorough the latest Anthropologie catalog I saw this look and swooned. Like actually swooned a little:

Anthro look

The blouse is so pretty with the cut out and lace details (you can find it here). I wasn’t a huge fan of the high neckline though, since it tends to make a busty girl look even more busty. Also it is $98… which is a bit pricy. The skirt is also fabulous, but a bit dressy for a normal workday. I could see pulling it off at a wedding though, if I had one coming up. Which I don’t. Also, this skirt is $198, which is way over my price range for an occasional piece.

So, I did what I normally do and cut out the picture to drool over later. However, the more that I looked at it the more I realized that I actually own a very similar top. I even got it at Anthropologie a couple months ago on super sale for around $20!

Then, when I was checking out an Old Navy sale online, I came across this printed jersey skirt for just $25. After I used a sale code and some credits I had sitting on my account, it was $4.98. Can’t pass that deal up, right?!

So, I put the two together and here’s what I got:

Copycat look

Hmmm…It’s okay. I really like how the bright colors of the skirt contrasted with the black top. When it’s pulled up into a high-waisted skirt, it’s a bit short on me. I probably could have ordered the “tall” version if I wanted to wear it that way. It does look like a good mix of fun and professional for work though. However, I think I can do better.

So, I switched out the top with a plain black v-neck t-shirt, gave it a little half tuck in the front for some waist-cinching powers, and pulled the skirt down:

Copycat look 2

It is certainly a lot more casual with the mostly untucked top, but I feel like the t-shirt balances out the fitted skirt for more of a subtle-sexy look. I bought this necklace after I took the pictures, but it would have been perfect with this outfit.  I could see me throwing this on for a warm weekend, or adding a cardigan to dress it up a little bit for work. It would also look cute for a casual dinner out at the beach over the summer. Yeah, that’s right Spring isn’t even fully here yet and I’m daydreaming about laying on the beach!

What do you think – do you like the first copycat look or my second try. Or, do you feel like I missed the mark completely?

Size

Can I just get something of my chest?

I am SO FREAKING sick of reading ‘fashion’ blogs where they say something like… “oh, I sized up to a Small for an oversized look” or “I’m FAR from a size two” when they are maybe a size 6. At most.

I love checking out fashion and style bloggers on their blogs and instagram for styling ideas… but OH MY GOD why can’t I find anyone MY size?!

It seems like everyone out there writing about fashion and style is an extra small-sized person. They look darn adorable when they throw together the most ridiculous of outfits. However, if I put those same clothes on my body I’d look like I just escaped Crazy Town. Or, you can go in the other direction and find a bunch of super stylish plus-sized lady bloggers. Once again, stylish as hell… but something that looks fabulous on a plus-sized lady isn’t necessarily going to fit me the same way.

I have enough issues with my body size and body image without getting bombarded with the idea that my size is not fashionable.

So let’s just get this out there, because honestly putting this information on the internet makes me want to vomit.

I am 5 foot, 7 inches tall.
Depending on the brand, I wear either a 10 or a 12.
Usually a 12.

Even at my most fit, I’m still typically a size 8 to 10. I think the last time I was below that I was 15 years old. Would I like to be smaller? Sure. I’d love to be super fit with a flat tummy and thin, muscular arms. But I’m not. And I’m mostly okay with that.

My point is, I’m guessing my readers look a lot more like me than a size 0 fashion blogger. And that is why I like to post outfit pictures. Because, there should be someone my size out there talking about what works and what doesn’t for this ‘in-between’ body type.

I love style and fashion. I love sifting through Marshalls and Nordstrom Rack to find that diamond in the rough that I’m going to fall in love with and wear over and over again. I love sharing my Stitch Fix posts with you, so you can see what the clothes look like on someone with boobs and hips. And a bit of a belly.

talking about size

I don’t like telling people my size. I’ve been a bit coy in the past saying things like “oh, I typically wear a size large” but frankly I’m sick of it. Even though my weight has fluctuated by about 15 pounds or so in the last 5 years, I’ve been the same exact size. So, I guess I’d better own it.

Now that I’ve vented, do you have any frustrations you’d like to get off your chest?

SALE ALERT: Kid Fashion Emergency!

Ok guys, we’ve talked kid fashion before but right now we have a KID FASHION EMERGENCY! I just moseyed over to the Gap website and saw that they are having a pretty awesome sale on their summer clothes. Which works out great because we realized when we were in Disney World that Jack currently has 4 t-shirt that fit him… and he’s already starting to show a little belly.

My mom was awesome and got him some short sleeved tops and shorts for his birthday, but I still have it on my list to stock up when I see some good deals.

Well, I SAW GOOD DEALS!

And I wanted to share them with you in case you need to do some summer shopping for your kiddo too. I had been hoping that Gap would have a sale because their quality is a lot better than I’ve been finding lately at Old Navy. While Old Navy is still my go-to store for Jack’s pants, I’ve found that the shirts start looking really cracked and worn after a month or two of regular wear.

Anywho… let’s get on to the deals.

A bunch of stuff is already up to 40% off, which ends today and then you can get an extra 25% off if you use the promo code SAVE (it says there are some exclusions, but everything I chose applied).

Here’s what I just ordered:

Gap haul

Burgundy hoodie – was $29.99, on sale for $19.99
Gray sweatshirt – was $24.99, on sale for $11.99
Baseball t-shirt – was $18.95, on sale for $13.99
Orange Gap shirt – was $14.95, on sale for $8.97
Blue Gap shirt – was $14.95, on sale for $8.97
Surf shirt – was $16.95, on sale for $10.17
Orange truck shirt – was $16.95, on sale for $10.17
Best Day Ever shirt – was $16.95, on sale for $10.17
Cool like Lemonade shirt – was $16.95, on sale for $10.17
Happy Camper shirt – was $16.95, on sale for $10.17
Motorcycle shirt – was $16.95, on sale for $10.17
Fish shirt – – was $16.95, on sale for $10.17

THEN, take 25% off of everything, add tax… and I got the whole shabang for $99.33!

So there you go…. SALE ALERT. And it’s not just on boys clothes, all the sections — including men and women’s — are having their “spring break” sale right now. Let me know what you get!
