My Summer Essentials

Happy 1st day of summer! I mean, I’m totally a day late, but I don’t post on Sundays so we will celebrate today.

I haven’t done one of my “favorite products” posts in a really long time, so I figured I’d share some of my absolute favorites for summer. The best part of my list is that most of these are less than $10!

Summer essentials

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Lotion
I’ve tried dozens and dozens of lotions, creams and body butters throughout my life and this is the one I always end up coming back to. Oh Palmer’s, I just can’t quit you! It is that perfect formula of not too light and not too thick, and also has an amazing scent. Oh yeah, and it’s less than $10 for a big bottle!

Pantene Pro-V Advanced Keratin Repair Conditioner
I dye my hair throughout the year, but summer brings added hazards of salty beach air, sea water, chlorine pool water, and lots of sun beating down on my locks. I’ve been using this conditioner for years, every single time I wash my hair and it looks just as healthy and shiny as if I didn’t spend a week lying on the beach!

ChapStick Classic Medicated Lip Balm
Sure, I like to throw on a bunch of colored lip glosses when I’m taking pictures or at work, but Chapstick will always have my heart. Specifically, their Medicated Lip Balm version. It’s got a little menthol tingle that is even better when you’re all hot and dried out from a long day outside in the summer heat.

Essie Nail Color in Orangy Red’s
I like to keep my toenails painted year-round, but in the summer I go for bright orangy red shades. I love every single color on the link above. I’m currently wearing “Happy Wife, Happy Life” which looks very similar to the “Geranium.” I’ve tried a bunch of different nail polish brands, but Essie and OPI are always my favorites!

Kindle Fire HD 7
I LOVE my Kindle Fire so much… even more now that I have Kindle Unlimited! When I’m not reading to my heart’s content, I’m listening to the Pandora app while boogying on my elliptical. Of course, now that Orange is the New Black’s latest season is out, I’ve been catching up on everything happening at Litchfield! I have this case (which only fits the Kindle Fire 7) and I really love it. So if you’re looking for a new case, I definitely recommend this one!

Vivere Double Hammock & Stand
I bought this last year as a Mother’s Day gift for myself and it is my favorite way to laze around outside. Whether I’m curled up with my Kindle or sharing the hammock with Jack, Ollie AND my coffee, it’s pretty awesome.

Looks comfy, right?

  1. That hammock wins this post. Where’s the SPF? 😉 That’s a MUST for me year-round, but I really slather it on in the summer months. I like Cetaphil and Neutrogena. I have the skin of a pubescent teenager so I have to be careful.

  2. La Roche Posay sunscreen is seriously the best! I would say it’s my summer staple but it’s my year round staple! Now that Target and Walgreens carry it in addition to CVS, it’s super easy to find and it’s on the “clean” list (which Neutrogena is not). The little bottle looks pricey but lasts months with daily use.

I also can’t live without Old Navy flip flops. They’re cheap, come in fun colors, and waterproof.

And because summers here can mean a 20 degree difference in a 20 mile radius (hello SF fog), my cheapie $10 Cost Plus scarf that doubles as a wrap goes everywhere with me.

I am so stealing your hammock! How awesome is that?

    1. I’ll have to try La Roche Posay next time I buy more sunscreen. =) I’m weird, but I actually hate flip flops… I always trip in them so I prefer Toms or sandals!

And I LOOOOOOVE my hammock — much like a milkshake, it brings ALL the boys to my yard.
