October Thrift Haul

October was a super busy month, so I only had time to make one thrifting stop and one consignment stop. I did get a little lucky though and picked up four clothing items. Let’s check out this month’s mini haul!

{Pssst, you can read about my previous thrifting adventures here}

Thrift Scores:

Desigual Linen Top, $10

This linen/cotton mix top with a chiffon back was new with tags at the thrift store. I liked the linen feel to the top and the pretty embroidery that was reminiscent of Lucky Brand and Johnny Was. Paying $10 was quite high for thrift prices, but I really liked it and can see myself wearing it with skinny jeans and boots this fall. If it was a mistake, it was only a $10 mistake and I can live with that.

Consignment Scores:

I first visited the Chic to Chic consignment store last month, so I decided to do a quick stop to see if they had added anything new. Much of the selection was the same as my previous visit, but I did find a couple winners.

Nightcap by Carisa top, $19.98

This top was on clearance for $19.98 and I actually tried it on last month when I was in the store. At the time, the bust was a little tight… so I put it back. This time, it fit great (I guess I’ve been working out a bit more) and I love the bohemian fit and the pretty lace/crochet bits. I wasn’t familiar with the brand at all, so I googled it and found their website. Similar tops go for $200 -$300, which is quite a surprise. I think I’ll probably wear this in the fall over a fitted black tank top and jeans. I can also see wearing this as a swimsuit cover up with a pair of jean shorts on my upcoming cruise!

Vigoss Moto Jacket Sweatshirt, $24.95

This is probably my favorite score of the month. Once again, I’m not familiar with the brand (but it appears that it is sold at Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack), but this looks like a moto jacket + a hoodie sweatshirt + a teddy bear had a baby. A warm and soft baby. I love the fit of the moto jacket combined with the softness of cotton sweatshirt material. But what I REALLY love is the plush lining inside the body of the jacket and the hood. It is soooo warm and comfy. I could totally throw this on when I’m a little chilly in my house and not be embarrassed at all to leave it on for errands. This will get tons of wear!

Eileen Fisher Silk Georgette Crepe Round Neck Boxy Top, $39.95

This silk top still has the Nordstrom tags attached with the original price of $248, so for $40 I had to at least try it on. It’s actually this exact top, sold out on the Nordstrom Rack website.

This blouse is an XL and I typically wear a medium or large in Eileen Fisher, so it is a bit oversized on me. It’s so soft and flows so nicely, so I’m hoping that I can pair it with some skinny trousers and a cardi. Or maybe jeans and a bright pair of Rothy’s for a nicer casual look? I’m kind of having second thoughts about this one… hoping it isn’t a mistake, but only time will tell.

September Thrift Haul

This month I decided to check out a new-to-me consignment store and was totally wowed over their selection. I didn’t actually think I was going to have any time to get to a thrift store, but my husband surprised me with a stop to my favorite location on my birthday weekend. And the whole family SCORED!

{Pssst, you can read about my previous thrifting adventures here}

First up, I tried out Chic to Chic in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The store carried a TON of designer brands and the prices were pretty reasonable for what they were offering. I ended up buying two items:

Nice Things by Paloma S embroidered green sweater, $80

I wasn’t familiar with this brand, so I did a bit of googling and it is from Barcelona, Spain. This particular sweater has the original tags still attached for $139, which is consistent with pricing on their website. While $80 is a bit high for consignment, this sweater is brand new, beautifully made, and the beading is fantastic.

I love that it is a neutral color that will fit in with so many items in my closet, but the beads add a pretty touch. I can see me wearing this a million times with basically everything in my wardrobe. I wore it for the first time earlier this week with a black dress and zebra patterned flats.

Vince Striped Sweater, $12.50

I’m such a sucker for strips. And designer brands at low prices. I found this exact sweater online and it sold for $185. It is linen and slightly sheer, so I’ll probably have to layer it over a tank top. I love the dropped sleeves and swingy shape! It was also marked down (twice) to the clearance price of $12.50. YES, please! I can’t wait to pair this with my distressed boyfriend jeans, or skinny jeans and my studded motorcycle boots!

At the thrift store, I found a couple items for myself, a bunch of items for my husband and even some games for Jack.

Alfani dress, size 8, $9.99

I saw this sleeveless shirt dress on the rack and immediately was drawn to the fitted top and full skirt. It was a size 8 though and I tend to be a 10/12 in dresses… but I tried it on anyways and it fit! It is totally the kind of dress that makes me want to twirl around to take advantage of the pretty skirt. I googled Alfani dresses and it looks like they are sold at Macy’s for around $100 or so. I just wore this for the first time yesterday with an ALL thrifted outfitsee it here!

Jones New York knit top, medium, $5.99

So this top isn’t really too exciting, but I really like the heathered color. It’s a size medium, but fits generously. I feel like this will be a nice ‘around the house’ top for me to wear with jeans or sweatpants, as it is super soft and comfy.

VanHeusen Traveler men’s shirt, XL – $5.99

I saw this button up shirt on the thrift store rack and immediately made my husband try it on over his tee… and it fit great. Love that this is the Traveler style that doesn’t need to be ironed! I found this same shirt on the Kohl’s website with a retail price of $60 and currently on sale for $30. This will go great with my husband’s suit for our upcoming cruise.

100% silk ties, $6.99 each

I’ve never bothered to look through the tie section before, but as we were about to leave my husband suggested we check it out. There were probably hundreds of ties there! From left to right, these are Nicole Miller, Jos A Bank Executive Collection, Gutteridge Dal 1878, and US Polo Assn.

The most interesting tie was the one with a Gutteridge Dal 1878 tag. I did some googling and it appears that Gutteridge Dal 1878 is an Italian brand that has been around since 1878. The brand is sold in Italy at only 60 boutiques and they are known for their timeless style. It looks like their ties typically sell for 42 euros, which is about $50.

Vineyard Vines flying fish 100% silk tie, $9.99

I wish Travis loved the design of this tie, because it is handmade, 100% silk and still has the tags on it! Vineyard Vines ties are sold on their website for $85, which makes this $10 purchase a steal. I bought this specifically to resell on Poshmark or eBay. It is a beautiful tie and I hope it finds a good home!

Assorted Games, $1.99 – $2.99

We ended up getting a Bionic Bug set (retail: $20), Hedbandz (retail: $20), Angry Birds (retail: no idea) and Cranium Big Book of Outrageous Fun (retail $20). We spent $11 on everything and EVERY SINGLE BOX was unopened. Isn’t that crazy?! So far Jack has played with the Angry Birds set and LOVED it!

August Thrift Haul

I’m super excited to share my August thrift finds because almost every single one came from a ‘crappy thrift store that never has anything good’. According to me. So, this month’s haul just goes to show you that with a little bit of luck, you can find AWESOME items at the thrift store. Even the ‘crappy’ ones!

{Pssst, you can read about my previous thrifting adventures here}

3 Tupperware storage bins, $1.99 each

First up are these handy storage bins. I actually picked them up and put them back three times or so before kicking myself and buying them. For $2 per bin, it was worth the risk of not having an exact job for them. Of course, within a day two of them are already in use around my house… so once again a lesson to myself to just BUY storage stuff when I see it rather than needing it and having to go buy it full priced at Target!

Goverre Portable stemless wine glass, $2.99

How cool is this grown up sippy cup for wine?! This was new in-the-box when I saw it at the thrift store for $3 and I figured it was perfect for those on-the-couch-wine-sipping days! I looked up the brand and apparently this item was on Shark Tank, so that’s pretty cool. I will say that this wine glass is HUGE, so I have to be careful about not filling it too high and then wondering why the world is starting to spin!

Andrew Marc leather purse, $29.99

At the thrift store, paying $30 for a purse is super expensive! However, I did a ton of research and apparently these bags go for $450 – $650 (I actually posted all about my stalking here) The bag is gorgeous and so well made… as soon as the weather starts to cool down for Fall, I’ll be switching over!

Maeve embroidered dress, $8

On the way to a doctor’s appointment, I noticed a little hole-in-the-wall consignment/thrift shop. I had about 20 minutes, so I stopped in and did a quick lookie loo through the ladies’ section. They had a few dresses that made it into the dressing room, but this one is the only one that made me want to rip the tag off and wear it immediately.

It’s one of my favorite Anthropologie brands, Maeve, and the cotton is so soft and flowy. I also really like the netting and embroidery accents at the top and hem of the dress. There is a slight tear on the v-neckline, but it looks like an easy fix with a needle and some thread.

Ann Taylor eyelet strapless dress, $3.50

After that doctor’s appointment, I had another 30 minutes before my next appointment so I made a stop into the crappy Goodwill that never has anything good. Within about 15 minutes I came across this dress and threw it into my cart to try on. I need someone to zip me up, but other than that the fit is fantastic and the dress is in perfect condition.

Source: AnnTaylor.com

I looked it up on the Ann Taylor website and it was sold 3 years ago for $179. The checkout lady must have liked me or the Goodwill must have been having a sale, because she gave it to me for half off the regular dress price! I’m already excited to wear this to my brother’s wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner in a couple weeks with some strappy sandals.

White House Black Market sweater, $5.99

I wasn’t even looking in the sweater section, but this sparkly sweater called my name when I raced past towards the dressing rooms. The buttons are pretty metal snaps and in person the gold thread is super sparkly. Apparently similar sweaters go for $79 on the White House Black Market website, but I got this one for $6 thrifted!

Calvin Klein faux wrap dress, $3.99

After my last appointment of the day, I stopped by one last thrift store… another one where I hardly ever find anything I like. And once again, I found a few winners! Even better, the nice checkout man decided to ring my dresses up a ‘sleeveless tops’ so they only cost me $4 each!

First, this dress. It had the tag cut out, so I had no idea what size or what brand it was when I tried it on. It fit great though, so I bought it. There was one interior tag with a RN number on it, which lead me to believe it was by Calvin Klein… seems about right. Love the fall colors of this dress and I can see me wearing it a ton to work throughout the year!

Leota sweetheart neckline dress, $3.99

My purple Leota dress just made my Summer Favorites post last week! When I saw this Leota dress, I originally thought it would be too big, because it is marked as an extra-large. I thought I could maybe tailor it myself if needed, but when I tried it on it fit exactly the same as my large one.

I love the ¾ sleeves and pretty green and black pattern on this dress. It also has a sweetheart neckline that is super pretty. This dress sold for $148 on the Leota website, so I’m pretty happy to have gotten it for $4! This is another one that will get lots of wear, both with bare legs and with black fleece-lined tights in the winter.

Organizer, $6.99

I initially picked up this organizer thinking my husband could use it in his garage. But then, I got kind of attached to it. I’ve been cleaning out my sewing/embroidery area in my office and this organizer will be great for all my needles, thread, etc. I might even get super nerdy and use my label maker to label each drawer… blog post forthcoming!

TYLHO Gingham dress, $3.99

I looooove this dress and even though it is a medium, I tried to shove myself into it. However, it was (of course) too small on me. TYLHO is an Anthropologie brand though and the dress retailed for $168, so I figured I’d buy it and resell it for a profit. I paid $4 for the dress and sold it within 24 hours for $43. I made $39 profit on this dress, which paid for the rest of the entire day’s thrifting (I spent a total of $36 on the 5 dresses, the sweater and the organizer).

I actually figured I wouldn’t have much of a thrift haul post for you all because I didn’t have time to run out to the “good” thrift stores. But this really goes to show that there is great stuff to be found everywhere!
