Copycat Look: Anthropologie Outfit

I’m not sure if this is going to become a THING on my blog, but I thought it might be fun to find a look that I loved and then try to copy it for my body type and budget. If you like it, let me know and I’ll keep it up!

When I was paging thorough the latest Anthropologie catalog I saw this look and swooned. Like actually swooned a little:

Anthro look

The blouse is so pretty with the cut out and lace details (you can find it here). I wasn’t a huge fan of the high neckline though, since it tends to make a busty girl look even more busty. Also it is $98… which is a bit pricy. The skirt is also fabulous, but a bit dressy for a normal workday. I could see pulling it off at a wedding though, if I had one coming up. Which I don’t. Also, this skirt is $198, which is way over my price range for an occasional piece.

So, I did what I normally do and cut out the picture to drool over later. However, the more that I looked at it the more I realized that I actually own a very similar top. I even got it at Anthropologie a couple months ago on super sale for around $20!

Then, when I was checking out an Old Navy sale online, I came across this printed jersey skirt for just $25. After I used a sale code and some credits I had sitting on my account, it was $4.98. Can’t pass that deal up, right?!

So, I put the two together and here’s what I got:

Hmmm…It’s okay. I really like how the bright colors of the skirt contrasted with the black top. When it’s pulled up into a high-waisted skirt, it’s a bit short on me. I probably could have ordered the “tall” version if I wanted to wear it that way. It does look like a good mix of fun and professional for work though. However, I think I can do better.

So, I switched out the top with a plain black v-neck t-shirt, gave it a little half tuck in the front for some waist-cinching powers, and pulled the skirt down:

It is certainly a lot more casual with the mostly untucked top, but I feel like the t-shirt balances out the fitted skirt for more of a subtle-sexy look. I bought this necklace after I took the pictures, but it would have been perfect with this outfit.  I could see me throwing this on for a warm weekend, or adding a cardigan to dress it up a little bit for work. It would also look cute for a casual dinner out at the beach over the summer. Yeah, that’s right Spring isn’t even fully here yet and I’m daydreaming about laying on the beach!

What do you think – do you like the first copycat look or my second try. Or, do you feel like I missed the mark completely?

  1. I wouldn’t think of wearing the black with the colored skirt, and yet I like it. Thanks for daring for me!

I think that the first look shows your shape better, where the second one is much more casual. Both are something I would try.

Thanks for your honesty about budget and size.
