Fruit Picking Shenanigans

2 Sep

I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. This was the first weekend in a long, long time that both Travis and I had ALL THREE days off together! It might not sound like much, but after years of him working every other Saturday… it was pretty fantastic.

Although a three-day weekend means that a mountain of house chores will ‘need’ to get done, we made sure to spend lots of time being lazy too. On Sunday, we decided to drive the 20 minutes to Baugher’s Orchards to do some peach picking.

I’ve never actually picked peaches before, so I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun we had. It started off with a tractor ride out into the middle of the orchard and then they just let us run around with our bags to pick whatever we wanted. At first we couldn’t find ANY peaches on trees, but then after walking a few rows we all FLIPPED OUT at the peach filled forest honey hole!*

Oh, and tasting was encouraged… I’m not sure whether the ‘sniff test’ or the tasting was more fun for Jack. Or Travis. Or me.

We ended up with a bag of peaches, a bag of nectarines and sticky faces and hands for everyone. I’d consider that a pretty great time!

What do you do for your Labor Day weekend? Have you been peach picking recently? Is there a reason why Jack always wants to hold my hand when it’s covered in sticky peach juice?

*That’s an American Pickers reference. Whenever the guys say something is a ‘honey hole’ both Travis and I kind of cringe and giggle. So when I saw all the peaches, of course I had to yell out in my dorkiest Pickers voice, “It’s a HONEY HOLE!” and gallop around. Of course.
