Movie Talk: My Favorite Holiday Movies + a $60 Netflix Gift Card Giveaway

I love Christmas.

I love Christmas gifts. And Christmas cookies. And Christmas music. And I really love Christmas movies.

Each year, I have a couple movies that I absolutely MUST watch in order for it to truly feel like the holidays for me. Then, of course… there are a bunch of bonus movies too that I can watch if I feel like it.

But the BIG TWO are totally not negotiable.

Elf has only been out since 2003, but it simply is NOT the holiday season until I watch Will Farrell run around in his green tights. I can’t even think of Christmas without breaking out into random quotes like “Smiling is my Favorite” and “Santa! I KNOW HIM!” This year was the first year that Jack actually watched Elf with me and I plan to force-feed it to him for as many years at it takes for it to become his favorite Christmas movie. Just kidding. As long as he lets me watch it, it’s all A-Okay.

Apparently 2003 was a golden year for Christmas movies, because Love Actually is my favorite. MY TOTAL FAVORITE. Every year I have a showing – either with a bunch of girlfriends, or by myself – and THEN it is Christmas. Each time I watch it, I feel like I can relate to a different couple… but I always see a piece of myself in Natalie.

Now for the fun part. My friends at Netflix are giving me a $60 gift card for one of you to win! You can earn up to 5 entries:

  1. We LOVE Elf in my family, we actually watch it year round because we love it so much. My 3 year old likes to recite “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is by singing loud for all to hear.” And then proceeds to sing really loudly and off-key. We just watched Polar Express for the first time recently, I think I’m just old enough where I missed the excitement for it when it first came out. Honestly, we found it kinda creepy and not totally age appropriate for a 3 year old. We’re doing the Polar Express train ride this week and thought it would be a good introduction to the idea of a train ride to the North Pole. Not so true. “I don’t want to go on that train.” Sorry kiddo, can’t really blame you because those hobos and elves were kinda creepy!

  2. for me it is ‘All I want for Christmas’ – such a sweet cute movie – we have it on every year while we decorate the tree!

  3. The must have movies for Christmas is of course, Elf. We’ve already watched it 3 times since October.

My other favorites are the cheesy Hallmark & Lifetime movies – i just cant get enough of these!

  4. White Christmas is my go to every Christmas Eve. Then the rest of the Dec season I watch all the Christmas Hallmark movies.

  5. I love “The Holiday” and “Last Holiday” and certainly Elf.

And while not a movie.. a friend of mine once showed me the Creature Comforts “Merry Christmas Everybody” half hour special, and I liked it enough to get the DVD! It was pretty cute (even though we were all adults, we all enjoyed it)!

  6. For watching with or without kiddos, I love the first Home Alone. For watching with adults only, The Family Stone is fantastic!

  7. Gotta be Muppet Christmas Carol – my cousins had a tradition of always watching on Christmas Eve and I am continuing with my two babies!

  8. My favorite Christmas movies are The Santa Clause 1 & 2. Actually, I just watched TSC with my kids for the first time and I cried throughout the whole thing. I absolutely love it
