Problem Solver: Plant Grow Lights

Thanks to my green thumbed friend Lindsey’s encouragement, I’ve somehow found myself to be a bit of a plant girlie. It started small. After a visit to her house, I’d find myself coming home with a couple cuttings that she assured me were hard to kill. She told me where to put them in relation to my windows, when to water them, and EXACTLY how often.

After successfully keeping plants alive on my kitchen table for a couple years, I branched out to the window by the sink. Then, I found that my upstairs bathroom countertop got the *perfect* amount of sunlight for plants. A year or so later, I added a shelf to my closet so I could take advantage of the other front window. Those plants FLOURISHED!

But that shelf filled up… so I had to buy a larger shelf. And then Lindsey gave me a couple more plants and I had nowhere to put them because I ran out of good windows. So, she gave me a plant grow light to test if it allowed plants to survive in my office. And it was like magic, allowing me to now have a few plants in my office!

So, when she handed me a few more plants in September, I figured it was the perfect time to add some plants to my dark bedroom. Which means I needed to order some grow lights…

After researching a bunch of options, I ended up choosing these: Full Spectrum Halo Grow Lights for Indoor Plants. I like that they have an adjustable height, a choice of hours settings for the automatic timer, and they also look a little fancier than the typical grow lights.

I set them up in my bedroom and have them automatically turn on each day for 8 hours of full spectrum brightness. I don’t know why it took me so long to add grow lights to the equation because it opens up SO MANY more areas for plants in our home.

After years (if not decades) of getting teased for my black thumb, I feel pretty darn proud to have a bunch of flourishing plants in the house. And yes, I congratulate each one when they do a great job of growing new leaves. Because I’m a plant girlie now.
