Okay guys, you know I’m by no means a book blogger (I leave that to the fabulous Katie at Words for Worms)… but I am a super bookworm.
I started my Kindle Unlimited subscription a couple months ago and I’m still really loving the ability to read pretty much whatever I want for a set monthly fee. I downloaded a bunch of books before I left for the beach last month… but never actually got around to reading any of them until recently.
I just finished the Wayward Pines books by Blake Crouch and HOLY CRAP!
I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t read the books, so here is the summary for the first book right off of Amazon.com:
Secret service agent Ethan Burke arrives in Wayward Pines, Idaho, with a clear mission: locate and recover two federal agents who went missing in the bucolic town one month earlier. But within minutes of his arrival, Ethan is involved in a violent accident. He comes to in a hospital, with no ID, no cell phone, and no briefcase. The medical staff seems friendly enough, but something feels…off. As the days pass, Ethan’s investigation into the disappearance of his colleagues turns up more questions than answers. Why can’t he get any phone calls through to his wife and son in the outside world? Why doesn’t anyone believe he is who he says he is? And what is the purpose of the electrified fences surrounding the town? Are they meant to keep the residents in? Or something else out? Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan further from the world he thought he knew, from the man he thought he was, until he must face a horrifying fact—he may never get out of Wayward Pines alive.
I have to admit, it took me probably half the first book to really get into it. But once I was in… I was IN. I read all three of the books back-to-back and am now suffering a book hangover and wishing that there were more to read!
Apparently there is also a TV show based on the books, but it is only loosely based on the first book and then kind of goes off in a different direction.
Anyways… if you read the books, I’m dying to know what you thought! When you read the very last page, did you go online and frantically check to see if a forth book would be coming out?
Now that I’m looking for more books to read, do you have any recommendations that will knock my socks off?
