Why I Don’t Do Rocksbox

Have you guys heard of Rocksbox?

It’s a jewelry membership service where you pay $19 a month to have three pieces of jewelry sent to you. You can wear the items as much as you like, swap them out for new pieces when you get bored and even buy a piece at a discount if you fall in love with it.

A bunch of other bloggers and instagrammers LOVE Rocksbox. Love, love, love it. And I’ve even been tempted to try it myself because everyone has those ‘try one month free’ codes that they give out.

To be honest, if I really wanted to try Rocksbox for free I could probably be a part of their influencer program. They often send bloggers free boxes for three months and include a referral code so that fans can earn the bloggers even more free boxes. {PS this is why so may bloggers and instagrammers talk about it so much… to earn free boxes}

But I won’t, and here’s why.

#1. I think it’s kind of ridiculous to spend $19 a month on jewelry that you have to give back.

#2. I think it’s kind of gross to rent jewelry that someone already wore. Sure, they cleaned it but the thought of someone else’s ear germs being on an earring that I’m going to slide through my earring hole makes me want to yack.

#3. There is no way that I would feel comfortable telling my readers to go and spend $19 a month on a jewelry rental box that I wouldn’t purchase for myself.

It’s not that I don’t like jewelry. I LOVE me some jewelry. However, I’d much rather buy something from a small designer on etsy, or find a super clearance deal from Nordstrom Rack. Like this Kendra Scott ring:

I don’t mind spending a little extra money on something of high quality that is going to last for years… but to spend $19 a month on a rental isn’t my cup of tea.

So yeah, I’m not a Rocksbox girl, but I do kind of get it. I guess. So, what I want to know is are YOU into Rocksbox and why?

  1. I tried Rocksbox for a couple months (first month was free) and on the one hand.. I don’t wear earrings, so the sanitation aspect doesn’t bother me on necklaces/bracelets/rings. I also have noticed that I, personally, tend to get jewelry and very rarely wear it; so, I thought it was fun to try new styles and then just send them back rather than see them gather dust.

    My problem with Rocksbox was that they were soooo sloooow. There would be ten days between returning one box and getting the next one. I use LeTote and can select up to two jewelry items through them, so that works a lot better for me.

    1. I heard that they were quite slow too, which seems super frustrating if you want to quickly refresh your jewelry wardrobe. I’ve heard good things about LeTote too!
