Another Slim Kid Shorts Hack

I’ve talked about it before, but Jack is one of those tall slim kids where it’s hard to get pants to fit in the waist AND the length. I wrote a post back in November on how I switch out the drawstring in his pants with elastic (find it here) and I did the same thing for his shorts this summer. Well, when we went down to Florida, I realized I was going to need to do something with his swim trunks and came up with a new EVEN EASIER way to do it.

Drawstring toggles!

If you’ve ever done that thing where you knot your kid’s swim trunks tight so that they won’t fall down and then have to deal with the freakout when they can’t get their pants down to go to the bathroom and the wet string is impossible to undo… you need these.

I purchased a 30 pack of assorted colors on Amazon for $9 and let Jack pick which color he wanted on each pair of this year’s swim trunks.

They also work out great for more *fancy* shorts. I had to purchase a pair of chino-type shorts for Jack (even though he HATES all non-exercise shorts right now) for some upcoming events and the drawstring toggle will work perfect for keeping them up around his waist without the constant tying/untying issues.

Fun fact: they are also great on shoes, for when you want the shoestrings to stay tight without retying them!

Also, this $9 pack will basically last us forever, since I can just steal them back off a pair of shorts when he outgrows them.

The Popflex Active Twirl Dress

I was influenced. I don’t know if it was the adorable lavender twirly skirt Taylor Swift was wearing in her tour rehearsals, or the fact that I kept getting targeted with ads on Instagram, but somehow I found my way clicking around the Popflex Active website.

I really wanted one of their skorts and I love both the Twirl skort and the Pirouette skort. They have biker shorts under their swishy skirts and they are pretty darn perfect for my evening walks with my sweetie. However, they are both backordered in the color/size that I want. {sob}

So, then I started clicking around some more and found the Twirl Dress:

Source: PopFlexActive.com

It has built in shorts AND a built-in shelf bra, an adjustable waist and it even has pockets on both sides of the shorts. According to their size chart, a size XL would be best for me so I made my order and waited with baited breath.

And. Oh. My. Gosh. It’s adorable!

Okay, the photos aren’t the best because I asked my husband to take a couple for me while we were doing our weekend morning walk.

But I felt so cute and sassy in my skort dress!

And the shelf bra was the perfect amount of support for a walk (NOT a run though, FYI). And the pockets are perfection. I honestly would buy this in a million other colors, but I’m not a fan of the current pastel options they have. However, if they come out with a wine-colored version, dark green or dark blue I’ll hit ‘buy it now’ button so fast my fingers will blur!

Of course, now that I have the Twirl Dress and love it, I’m keeping my eye out for a restock of the skorts that I like too. AND they just launched some super cute swimsuits, so basically, I’m kind of obsessed.

If you are looking for some adorable and well fitting active clothes that are thoughtfully designed by women, for women… you may want to check them out too.

And no, this is not a sponsored post. I just love them and I’m keeping an eye out so I can add more of their items to my casual wardrobe! I did find a special refer-a-friend link on their site though if you want to try them out – you can use this link for $20 off your first order of $50 or more: http://rwrd.io/atr0nib?c (Note: if you use this link, I will also earn points in my account for future purchases).

Happy Twirling!

My Style: May 2024

This month was a wonderful mix of cooler and warmer days, and it was so nice to finally fully pack away the tights and boots for the summer. However, I haven’t *quite* gotten all the summer stuff out yet and I’ve really been enjoying those days where I don’t need heat OR air conditioning in the house (and so does my wallet).

Let’s take a look at my May looks:

All the jewel tones at the beginning of this month! I am not a pastel-loving kind of girl, so give me some saturated colors and I’m pretty darn happy. While I typically go for patterned skirts and dresses, for these three outfits I went with the solid skirts and then worked in the patterns with my tops.

Out of these three outfits, the middle blouse may be hitting the donate pile. I’m going to try it again with some denim shorts this summer before making up my mind.

More skirt combos — I’m basically working my way through my entire skirt collection to decide what stays and what goes. And I like all of these combos, so it looks like nothing gets purged from this set out outfits.

Three more casual outfits for my weekends — I’m kind of obsessed with that first skirt. I thrifted it in Tuscan and I’ve been wearing it on repeat because it makes me so happy! Also, with the warmer weather I’m switching to ‘crossbody purse season’ and I’m excited to start using my vintage Coach finds!

Once again, nothing gets purged from this set of outfits and you will be seeing all of these pieces again and again this summer.

Last outfit — which is what I’m wearing to work today. I thrifted this skirt over the weekend, washed it, hemmed it (it previously had a high-low hem) and couldn’t hold off from wearing it ASAP! No purge items here either!

New vs. Secondhand Talley

This month, I count 14 items that I purchased retail and 21 items I purchased secondhand! And wow, it was a month of skirts — out of the 10 skirts from this post, 5 were purchased retail and 5 were purchased secondhand.
