What to Wear to 5 Types of Weddings

You know how I’m a syndicated Style contributor over at BlogHer? Well, I wrote a post for them not too long ago and totally forgot to share it over here for you all. And I REALLY like that post, so I decided that since I’m running kind of behind this week (being away for 5 days in NYC totally threw me off) I’d share it with you now!

Do you kind of dread wedding season because you can never figure out what to wear when the dress code is something random like “black tie beach chic with sparkles?”

Well, I did a ton of digging on my favorite shopping sites and came up with ideas for you to wear to five different types of weddings. I’d love it if you’d click through to check it out!

Reviewing the FabFitFun Summer Box & a $10 Code!

Do you guys remember how much I loved subscription boxes? I tried so many of them over the years – Citrus Lane, Brit Kit, Darby Smart, Birchbox, Fair Ivy, Graze, Fabletics, Blue Apron, MissionCute, and more. And, of course, I’m still going strong with Stitch Fix, Wantable and Hello Fresh. So, when I received a deal to try the FabFitFun box for $25 off, it was a no brainer!

What is the FabFitFun box?
Each box contains fabulous finds in beauty, wellness, fashion, and fitness, hand-picked by the FabFitFun team. It is a quarterly box, delivered once per season. Each box costs $49.99 and will contain $200+ in retail value.

I signed up just in time for the Summer box, so let’s see what I got:

FabFitFun Summer 2015 - Pocketful of Joules

The Everyday Wireless Speaker – $29.99
I received the wireless speaker in pink and it has a few different uses. It can play music from your phone, play FM radio or even work as a hands-free speaker phone. It has a carabiner-style clip on the top so that you can clip it on to stuff, which is pretty cool. I’m not actually sure when I’d use this, since I typically listen to music either on my laptop while working or on my iHome while cooking.

Inkling Scents Sultry Roll-On Oil Perfume – $25
A 1/3 ounce bottle of Sultry, a blend of creamy sandalwood, white amber, lotus flower, orchid, Bulgarian rose, and silky vanilla was included in the box. Fortunately, I like the scent of it… because it kind of leaked over a few things in my box. I like that the roll-on perfume is a small size, which makes it great for travel. I also like that they included a 15% discount code in case I’d like to order more when it runs out.

Gorge “I’ll Make You Look Amazing” Daily Spray – $24.95
This leave-in conditioner spray is supposed to be perfect for summer because it is formulated to repair hair damage and restore moisture to dry, over-processed and frizzy hair. In fact, on the spray it claims to be “a magical leave-in conditioner that will turn your hair into the sexiest hair ever.” I can’t say whether I now have the sexiest hair ever, but I can tell you that it smells AMAZING and it makes me want to constantly sniff myself.

Wren 14kt Gold & Black Sapphire Necklace – $100
Each Summer FabFitFun box came with either a horseshoe, heart or moon pendant necklace from Wren that is 14 karat gold dipped and features a black sapphire. I ended up with the heart necklace and I love it!

FabFitFun Summer - necklace - Pocketful of Joules

It is really simple, but gorgeous and looks pretty alone or stacked with other necklaces. I clicked through to Wren Studios to see if the value was actually $100 for the necklaces, and sure enough that is what they have them listed for.

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss – $19
This lip gloss is infused with vitamin E, jojoba seed oil and flower extract, and is supposed to ‘drench’ your lips in moisture and mega-watt, non-sticky shine. I got a color called “tipsy” so I really wish I liked it more than I did. The lip gloss is kind of sticky and the color is pretty much the natural color of my lips.
Looks like another one for the ‘donate to friends’ pile.

FatFitFun x CosmoBody Jump Rope – $14
So, here is where the ‘fit’ comes in to the box, a jump rope. They also have a link to some special jump rope workout videos to try it out with at fabfitfun.com/jumprope. I like the concept – I really do – but I’m pretty sure that you need to be more coordinated then me to jump rope WHILE bent over your laptop watching a jump rope video. I think I’m going to keep it outside so that I can get a few jumps in while Jack is playing. After putting on an exercise bra first, of course. I’m not insane.

Scratch Nail Wraps – $12
I recently tried Jamberry Wraps, so I’m totally open minded ot the world of nail wraps. However, I’m just not into this design. I think these will be added to my giveaway pile.

Headspace 3-Month Subscription – $38.85
Included in the Summer box was a special code to get three months free of the Headspace app. You can use it online or on your phone to learn how to mediate and train your mind for improved focus, better sleep and less stress in just 10 minutes a day. Consider me intrigued!

Hello Konjac Cleansing Sponge – $12
This little sponge from Korea is made from konjac vegetable fibers and is supposed to gently exfoliate and thoroughly cleanse pores. It’s super hard when you receive it, but you are supposed to soak it for a minute or two until it’s completely soft and has grown in size. Then, you massage your face and neck using circular motions (with or without cleanser).

Vaselline Intensive Care Aloe Soothe Spray Moisturizer – $7.99
This is considered a “sponsored” item, so apparently it is a bonus that doesn’t count towards the cost of the box. I wasn’t really sure about the whole spraying on lotion thing… I mean, how lazy do you have to be that rubbing lotion on your body is too much work? But then I tried it and I’m sold! It’s the perfect light lotion for summertime (I’ll need my heavier cream for the winter) and the light scent is really nice.

The total value of everything in the Summer FabFitFun box is: $275.79 (not including the sponsored item). I paid $25 for the entire box, so I’m going to say that it was SUPER worth getting. Even if I had paid the full price of $49.99… it was still a pretty great deal. I love the necklace so much that even if that was the only thing I liked, it would have been worth it. I was initially thinking that I’d cancel this subscription after I tried my first (cheap) box, but I liked it so much that I’m going to keep it to check out next season’s goodies too!

Do you want to try out the FabFitFun box? I have a special code that will give you $10 off your first box, just use this link.

Also, if you like/want the nail wraps leave me a comment below and I’ll randomly pick someone to send them to!

7/24 Update: The randomly picked winner of the Scratch Nail Wraps is Jenny. Congrats!

Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post and FabFitFun did not pay for me to review their products on my blog. If you decide that you would like to sign up for your own subscription and use my link, I will receive referral credits on my account and you will receive $10 off your first box.

My July Wantable Fitness Edit

Now that I’m running more to prepare for my Team Relay Marathon, I’m realizing that I don’t like a lot of my running clothes. There is nothing more annoying than starting a run and realizing that the pants you threw on actually fall down every third step, so you have to keep yanking them back up over your butt.

Believe me, I have PLENTY of excuses not to run… I don’t need running clothes helping me with any!

My workout clothes typically have either lived in my drawer for 10+ years or they’ve been an impulse purchase from Marshall’s. There is really no rhyme or reason to what I have… it’s mostly black leggings and shirts that I get for free for running a 5k. I have bought a couple running skirts, because they are freaking adorable. And if I’m going to be a sweaty, stinky mess at the end of a 5k, a skirt helps remind me that I’m a sassy chick.

So when I saw that Wantable now offers a Fitness Edit, I was super excited to try them out!

{I previously tried the Wantable Accessories Box and Wantable Intimates Box}

To set up your account, you fill out a bunch of survey questions with your sizes and preferences. Then, they charge you a $20 styling fee and send you 5 handpicked items to try in the comfort of your own home. You have 5 days to decide what you want and clothing prices range based on your preferences between $30 – 70 per item. The best part is that your styling fee is applied towards your final purchase and you get 20% off when you keep 3-4 items, OR $30 percent off when you keep all 5 items!

Wantable Fitness Edit - outfit 1

Outfit #1: Colosseum Floret Burnout Cool Racerback Tank in Sunshine and Primsport Leggings in Black
First off, I love the pretty yellow color and burnout details on this tank top. However, as much as I love a flowy top that doesn’t highlight my tummy, this is just WAY too flowy with its huge neck and armholes. It looks cute in the picture, but the moment I start running it slides all over the place. After just a little bouncing around, the neckline got hooked under my boobs in a weird ‘am I a flasher, or is this an outfit Madonna might wear’ kind of way. Not. Cute.

As for the leggings, they are pretty great with super breathable fabric, a high waist and a hidden pocket in the waistband. However, black leggings are pretty much the only thing that I already own… so I really don’t need another pair for $86.

Verdict: I think my stylist is going in the right direction, but no winners yet.

Wantable Fitness Edit - outfit 2

Outfit #2: Glyder Lundar Tank in Pink Stripe and Primsport Leggings in Black
This tank top is super soft and I really like the back detailing of the strappy top and mesh panel. For some reason I’m not really loving the stripes though. I guess it just looks too much like a normal shirt in the front and then a workout shirt in the back… kind of like a fitness mullet?

Verdict: The top is okay, but I feel like we can do better.

Wantable Fitness Edit - outfit 3

Outfit #3: Soybu Angie Tank in Pink Halftone and Soybu Allegro Capri in Pink Halftone
This top is really cool the way it incorporates an exercise bra and a baggier top all in one piece. They are connected, so once you figure out how to get it on, it’s on to stay and doesn’t budge. It’s kind of adorable and there is even a little sassy flash of skin on the sides. The problem is that the exercise bra is just not supportive enough for me to actually run in it. So, if I had a gym membership where I just walked from machine to machine looking cute as heck, it would work. As it is, I’m either on my (super bouncy) elliptical or running outside… so I really do need my tata’s to be as confined as possible.

The matching capri pants have a high waist, flat seams (to keep from any chaffing) and a cute little hidden waistband pocket. I’ve never really been a patterned leggings kinda girl, but I like these a lot. I also think that the price is super reasonable. After my $20 stylist fee comes out of it, they only cost me an extra $16! (PS, if you like them, here they are on the Soybu website.)

Verdict: The top is going back, but the leggings are MINE ALL MINE!

Was Wantable’s Fitness Edit Worth It?
Okay, to be honest… I freaking LOVED my Fitness Edit! It’s really hard for me to get motivated to run, so having some cute workout clothes really helps. I really liked the style of everything that my stylist sent me, which is incredible for my very first box. I love the capris that I decided to buy and I think I can get a lot of wear out of them – both alone and under some of my favorite running skirts. I even wore them over the weekend to do a run (a new longest mileage of 5 miles!) and they worked great, with no slipping around at all. I can’t wait to see what I get next month!

Have you tried the Wantable Fitness Edit? Do you think I choose wisely in deciding to keep the capris?
