September Thrift Haul

September was a super busy month for me, so wasn’t sure if I’d even have a chance to go thrifting at all. As it turns out, I was able to take a half-day at work last Friday to even out my hours from my work trip to Atlantic City… which means, THRIFTING TIME!

{Pssst, you can read about my previous thrifting adventures here}

My Friday morning event was in Towson, so I figured I’d check out a Savers that was only 3 minutes away. I’m really glad I did, because it was HUGE and I found a couple fun items:

Soft Surroundings tank dress, $5.99

I’ve talked about Soft Surroundings before and how much I love the brand for loungewear. I’ve thrifted a couple shirts and a sweatshirt/wrap type thing in the past, but this is my first time finding a dress. I checked their website and similar dresses typically sell for a retail of $80.

My initial thought was that I’d chop it into a long tank top, but it’s actually really soft and comfy (and has POCKETS). You can kinda tell that I threw it on over my jeans and belt in the photo, but it’s not too clingy at all.  So now I’m thinking it might be a nice kinda nightgown type lounging thing for around the house? For $6 it’s worth a try and if I hate it…chop chop!

Lucky Brand top, $6

I love Lucky Brand and often when thrifting you can just *tell* which items are from that brand because they have a certain boho look. This top is super soft cotton and I like the orangy-red design. It fits great and will be cute for a Casual Friday work outfit or just to throw on with jeans over the weekend.

After I finished up at Savers, I still had plenty of time left before I had to get home, so I decided to drive out to my favorite thrift store: 2nd Avenue. I always find some amazing brands at 2nd Avenue (both the Laurel and Columbia locations), but their prices do tend to be a bit higher.

Here’s what I found there:

Eileen Fisher skirt, $6.99

I ALWAYS look for Eileen when I’m thrifting and often find an item or two each time I’m out. On this trip, I actually found two items – this skirt and also a long sleeved t-shirt that was too shrunken for me. I own a couple pairs of Eileen Fisher stretch crepe pants (basically the most wonderful and flattering work trousers in the world), so when my hand brushed over the fabric of this crepe skirt… I immediately recognized it.

The pants I love typically cost $168 and my best estimating has this skirt somewhere from $179 – $198. It’s in fantastic condition (and the stretch crepe basically looks new forever), so I just threw it in the wash and let it hang dry. Such a find!

Striped sweater, $11.99

I don’t know what brand this is because the logo basically looks like a scribble, but I love a good striped cardigan! I have a couple that are almost needing to be retired, so this one will go into my weekend rotation over graphic tee shirts. It looks white in this photo lighting — but in person it is a light tan and medium/dark gray. As I mentioned, this store tends to price some things a little high – this same sweater would probably be $6 at a Goodwill or Savers, but I love it and will get lots of wear out of it, so $12 is fine. (I’m already wearing it to work today!)

Loft dachshund sweater, $17.99

This cute sweater is new and still has the $59.95 tags on it from Loft. It’s a medium and I usually wear a large, but it fits great. It also has three buttons on either side for a looser fit, which I love. I did pay way up for this sweater at $18, but it’s brand-spanking-new and adorable so I’ll let it slide. I like this one with jeans, like in my try-on photo. I also have a pair of berry/burgundy colored pants that will look super cute with this. OH, and I have a pair of slim trousers with polka dots that will also look really cute with this sweater. I’m going to have lots of fun styling this!

As I mentioned last month, I have gotten super picky with my thrifting purchases. My closet is pretty great right now, so I don’t really have a lot of “needs” to be filled. However, I still love the thrill of the hunt! I did see a few name-brand items that I was considering buying to resell, but I left them behind for some other thrifter to enjoy.

I’d love to hear your thrifting stories! Did you find a diamond in the rough (literally or figuratively)?

August Thrift Haul

August was not a great thrifting month for me.. .but not for lack of trying! I actually did make a few thrifting stops during the month, but walked away empty handed time and time again. I’m not sure if it is because I’m getting pickier or if there just wasn’t as much great stuff to pick from.

Actually… I do think it’s because I’m really happy with my current wardrobe so I’m getting super picky about any additions.

I ended thrifting two items this month:

Chico’s open cardigan, $9

First up is this pretty moss green open cardigan from Chicos. It still had the original tags on it and had never been worn, so I didn’t mind paying ‘up’ for it at $9 dollars. It’s super lightweight and I already wore it to work once:

Halogen sleeveless top, $5

On my last thrifting trip of the month, I ended up finding this pretty burgundy Halogen sleeveless top. Dressing room pic with Jack judging my outfit… Halogen is a Nordstrom brand and similar tops sell for around $60. This one has some pretty fall colors and sparkly thread running through the design. I’ll wear this one with a sweater and jeans for Casual Friday and probably tucked into a skirt for other workdays.

July Thrift Haul

July was a fun hodge-podge of thrifting opportunities for me. I found one item in a thrift store early in the month, made a stop by a new consignment shop, and then visited a few new-to-me consignment stores over the weekend in Annapolis.

J. Jill Wrap Sweater, $4

First up is this pretty wrap sweater from J. Jill. I tried it on and liked the fit of it, but then put it back on the rack because I’m not a pink person. Then, I turned around and fondled it again… before walking away. And finally, I just bought it since it was $4. I love the slouchy shape of this sweater, but I just don’t love the color! Then, I had a thought… I’d dye it!

I bought some black RIT dye and it’s been sitting in my office for the past couple weeks. The problem is that the sweater is made out of polyester, so I have to use a special version of the dye where I have to heat up some boiling water, stick in the sweater the dye and then stir it for 30 minutes. Yeah, that hasn’t happened yet. But… it will. I think. And when I finally do it, I’ll take some photos and let you know how it turned out!

Vintage Givinchy Blue Glass necklace, $10

As I mentioned, I heard about a brand new consignment shop by me so I made it a point to go and visit. They had a bunch of clothing, but I was mostly impressed with the jewelry section. Everything was 50% off, so I grabbed this Givinchy necklace that was marked at $20. It’s so weird and pretty looking, so for just $10 I figured I’d take a chance on it. I couldn’t find anything similar online to compare it to, so I have no idea how much this went for originally.

Anthropologie Beaded necklace, $6

Once again, the half-off fairy struck and I was able to get this fun beaded necklace for just $6. I love the length of it and how it just kind of floats around while you walk. I happened to be wearing my bright yellow sandals, which match perfectly and totally inspired this fun outfit:

Loft dress, $16.50

I found this dress over the weekend at a consignment shop in Annapolis — the colors, fit and price was right so I bought it. Do I need another jersey dress for work, um… probably not. BUT do I wear my dresses to work pretty much every day of the week…? Heck yeah I do.

Gibson Latimer Dress, $30.50

I paid up a bit for this dress (from the same consignment shop) but it was new with the $96 tags still on it. I love the cinched in elastic waist with the fun tie detail and I really like the weight of the fabric. I actually already wore it to work yesterday (you can see it here)!

Eileen Fisher cardigan, $20.50

You all know I love my Eileen. This pretty colored sweater is a looser weave and has a longer back on it. It actually worked out that it looks cute with both the dresses I bought, so I figured I’d get this one too. Eileen Fisher sweaters typically go from $200 – 300, so at $20 this one is a steal! Here it is with the navy dress:
