As they say: The days are long, but the years are short. At times, it feels like I was just pregnant with Jack and moving into our new house. And now, we’ve been here for almost a decade and we have a 9-year-old!
Jack’s 9th birthday fell on Presidents Day this year, which was wonderful since he had off of school and I had off of work. We were going to run out and pick up some crafts at Michael’s, but Jack decided on your birthday you don’t have to get dressed and you don’t leave the house… so instead he stayed in pajamas all day. Travis was able to come home early, so Jack opened his gifts in the afternoon and then we grabbed some snacks and cuddled up on the couch to watch a movie.
Jack’s dinner choice was my random recipe that I created for crockpot chicken stew and a little cake that he had picked out at the grocery store. There was the blowing of candles and a zoom call with family so we could all sing Happy Birthday to him (it was my 3rd time of the day…).
This year’s birthday looked different than previous years. There was no trip to Disney or Great Wolf Lodge. There were no goody bags made for his classmates. There was no kid’s birthday party with roller skating, crafts or videogames. I was a bit worried that he might be disappointed with the low-key celebration. However, he assured me that his birthday was awesome. So that’s all we can ask for!
I love hearing about Jack. What a good kid! It sounds like a fun birthday to me, too. Nothing’s better than pajamas, good food, family, a movie, presents and a cake!
