Stitch Fix-ing in the New Year: Help Me Decide!

That’s right guys, to continue along with our Fashion week…it’s Stitch Fix #5! If you’re interested in checking out my thoughts on my last four Fixes, you can find them here.

This month I asked specifically for a 41Hawthorn Moni Stud Detailed ¾ Sleeve Blouse that I’ve seen other people get and I’m dying to try it out for myself. I also asked for a work-appropriate dress and maybe even a flannel shirt.

Once again I was a Peter-Peter-Bo-Cheater and looked at my account as soon as I got an email that my Fix was shipped to me. I then googled each item name to see what it looked like, because I wanted to write down my first impressions before even seeing them/trying them on in person.

I had Claire as my personal shopper for the past two fixes, so I was surprised to have Adrienne for this Fix. I’m sure Adrienne is a really nice person, but I’m not sure if I’m a fan of her style…

Item #1: Alexander Aztec Knit Drape Front Cardigan, $68.00
Snap Judgment: Ugly. Ugly and not figure flattering at all. And um…hipster-ish. Do they think I’m a hipster? Should I put on a pair of supersized glasses and do a hipster pose when I get this in person? I’m sure I’m going to hate this and return it.

Alexander Aztec Knit Drape Front Cardigan - Joules

Actual Thoughts Once I Tried It On: Ugly and not figure flattering at all. It looks like I’m being devoured by an ugly Aztec blanket. I’m not sure if it’s more hideous coming or going… but it will be GOING out of my house in the pre-paid return envelope.

Item #2: Broadway Swing Skirt, $48.00
Snap Judgment: OH YAY, they must have looked at my Pinterest board because this looks like one of the skirts I pinned!  I hope this fits because I could totally use a plain black, swingy skirt that fits really well. Oh crap, I hope it’s BLACK and not some weird color that doesn’t match anything in my closet…

Renee C Broadway Swing Skirt - Joules

Actual Thoughts Once I Tried It On: YAY, it’s black and it fits nicely. I feel kinda cute in a “New Girl” kind of way in the first picture. I’m not sure if it’s “special” enough to buy though. The twirly-ness is nice… so this is a MAYBE. Feel free to sway me one way or the other in the comments!

Item #3: Amiee Geo Print Belted Dress, $48.00
Snap Judgment: I couldn’t actually find this dress online when I was google-sneaking around. If it is a work-appropriate dress, that’s a pretty good price so I hope I like it!

Amiee Geo Print Belted Dress - Joules

Actual Thoughts Once I Tried It On: This is the most hideous dress I’ve ever seen. The only way it could be more hideous is if I paired it with the Aztec blanket sweater. The fabric is extremely thin, like an old handkerchief has been washed 8,000 times. The fit is TERRIBLE and clings to all the wrong places… actually; it clings to ALL THE PLACES, which is why I’m holding the dress and NOT wearing it in the picture. In this dress I look like a slutty Wilma Flinstone. I don’t know who would think that this dress is work-appropriate, but not in my world. Verdict: I cannot get this dress into the return envelope fast enough and even flipped the bird at it so it would know my true feelings.

Item #4: Ivy Tulip Print Tab Sleeve Blouse, $68.00
Snap Judgment: Well, I guess they didn’t have the Moni studded shirt in my size to send me this time, which is super disappointing. However, this EXACT top is on my Pinterest board – and in my notes I said that I loved the tab sleeves, dark color and cute (but not too cutesy) pattern. I can’t WAIT to try this on! My guess is that I’m going to love this one and buy it.

Actual Thoughts Once I Tried It On: The first time I tried this one I wasn’t in love with the fit. Then, I tried it on again 12 hours later and decided I love it. I love it untucked with dark jeans, I love it with statement jewelry and a blazer and I love it tucked into the swing skirt. No need to vote on this one because it’s already hanging in my closet!

Item #5: Gulliver Cotton Gingham Button-Up Shirt, $28.00
Snap Judgment: This is the cheapest priced item I’ve ever received in a Stitch Fix, so that’s pretty awesome! Depending on the pattern, this may be super cute. I am a bit worried though, because according to other bloggers this shirt is cut small… so unless my stylist sized up it may not fit my… um… ample bosom.

Gulliver Cotton Gingham Shirt - Joules

Actual Thoughts Once I Tried It On: First off, there is a price difference between the checkout screen on my account ($28) and the invoice that comes with the clothes ($34). Obviously you pay the price on your checkout, but this is disconcerting and I’ll have to be sure to check any future orders for consistency. Not that it matters, because I can’t get this shirt closed over my boobs. Come on Fix peeps, if every person returns it and says it’s sized small…DO something about that and size up! Also, it’s not flannel… it’s a gingham button up shirt. Totally different. I guess it’s kind of cute open over a t-shirt. What do you think?

At this point, I’m definitely purchasing the tulip blouse and considering the swing skirt and maybe the gingham shirt. I have a couple days to decide though, so leave me a comment below and help me decide what to buy!

Twice x 2

If last week was an unintentional crafty/DIY week, this week’s theme is accidentally all about fashion. I just got in an awesome order from Twice that I just HAVE to share and I’m expecting this month’s Stitch Fix to come later this week!

I’ve talked about the consignment website Twice on my blog before when I decided to try selling some of my clothes and then purchase a couple new pieces with my found money. I thought the service was pretty darn awesome with their quick AND free shipping and easy way of earning extra money to spend.

Since it’s been a few months and I decided to buy a few more things, I wanted to share my experience with you.

When you sign up for Twice, you get on their email list for new arrivals. Typically I find an influx of store emails kind of annoying and I tend to opt out of most of them to keep away from shopping temptation. However, Twice sends you an email specific to the sizes and brands that you like to buy. As an added bonus, there is a special promo code in the email that you can use if you purchase anything off their suggested items list. It’s easy to overlook this special deal, but 10% off is a nice little extra treat!

Typically when I get their emails, I click through on my phone to see if anything is interesting. Well, last week I saw a BRAND NEW Banana Republic dress that still had its tags. The dress was originally $128 and marked down to $31.95. I also saw a gorgeous Ann Taylor Loft mustard colored top for just $17.95. I had a $10 referral credit in my account, used my 10% off code (which saved me $4.99) and got free shipping. So I spent a total of $34.91 for the two pieces. Less than $35 for a well-made dress and top? HECK YEAH!

When my order arrived, I was super excited to unpack it and even threw a picture up on instagram showing off my awesome scores.

I couldn’t wait to have a little fashion show, so here you go:

Twice - loft yellow top - style 1 Here is the mustard Ann Taylor Loft top. I styled it with a plain black pencil skirt (similar to how I styled the top from my last Stitch Fix order that I sent back). I would wear this outfit to work on a warm-ish day (obviously not today…), but would need to get a Joules-colored bra or cami to wear underneath because you can totally see my dark-colored bra in person. Not classy at all. Love the top though!

Twice - loft yellow top - style 2 Here is the top styled for cooler weather — I untucked the blouse and added a grey suit jacket (from H&M) and pretty jade beaded necklace (from Lucky, a Christmas gift from my husband). I’m wearing the black skirt in the picture and would throw on fleece-lined tights and boots. Or just put on a pair of black trousers to keep warm. The jacket totally solves the visible bra issue, so that’s a bonus!

Twice - Banana dress - style 1Here is the brand new (still with tags!?) Banana Republic dress… and look, there are POCKETS! Every girl loves a dress with pockets, right?! The dress fit perfectly and I can totally wear it year-round with just a few changes. Here is my warm weather look, just the dress and I could add a cute pair of pumps or sandals, depending on the occasion.

Twice - Banana dress - close upHere is a close-up on the waist detailing. Isn’t is gorgeous? What a steal!

Twice - Banana dress - style 2Here is my winterized version of the dress — I added a lightweight wool sweater with beaded detailing (from Marshalls) and would also throw on my trusty fleece-lined tights. Since the dress is so floaty, I’d probably add a slip to keep from that static-crawling-up-your-crotch look that tends to happen in drier weather.

Have you found any super amazing shopping deals lately? Feel free to brag away in the comments!

If you are interested in trying out Twice to sell OR buy clothes, they are currently running a referral bonus where you can get $10 off your first purchase (for new sign ups that use my special link) AND if you decide to sell your clothes you can get an additional bonus payout of $10 in store credit. Here is my special code: liketwice.com/Ddm2y Have fun shopping!

Disclosure: I was not rewarded by Twice for reviewing them on my blog. I was just incredibly impressed with their company and wanted to share it with you all! If you decided that you want to click through on my special link, I will receive credits on my account (click here to access my special link) and you will receive money off of your order!

November Stitch Fix: Help Me Decide!

I can’t believe my THIRD Stitch Fix is finally here. I feel like I’ve been looking forward to this Fix as soon as I scheduled it. That’s how they suck you in, right?!

If you are interested in checking out my first two Fix’s, you can see my first Stitch Fix box here and my second Getting Warmer Fix here.

Claire styled this month’s fix and I think overall she did a really great job. It’s actually my FAVORITE Fix so far… even better than last months Fix. Which is why I really need your help in deciding what to purchase!

Stitch Fix - November style cardThey updated the styling cards that come with the Fix so that now the outfit suggestions are all on one sheet of paper. I actually really like the new design because you don’t have a big laminated tag poking you while you try on the clothes. I also like that I have all the outfit suggestions in case I want to mimic any from my own clothes.

Stitch Fix silkTop - November FixHere’s my first item, which is the only one that wasn’t a winner AT ALL. I really like the color of the shirt… but there is no way that I’d ever pay $78 for a extremely thin short-sleeved blouse. You can’t see it in this picture, but it’s so thin that you can easily see my bra. As you can tell by my face, Joules no likey and this isn’t even included in the voting.

Stitch Fix Doman Top - November FixSo I need your opinion on this top. It’s a Dolman Sleeve Jersey top, which means that I kinda look like Batgirl when I lift my arms. Is this a good thing? Do I WANT to be Batgirl? I thought it looked cute as a date night top (even though I accidentally cut my head off in the picture…) and maybe for a more casual work outfit. What do you think?

Stitch Fix sweater and jeans - November FixI really like the feel of this sweater, but the color and shape doesn’t really do anything for me. Thoughts? The jeans are also from this Fix (also worn in the last picture) and I love the way they fit…however I JUST bought an identical pair of jeans a month or so ago.

Stitch Fix Jacket - November FixWhen I pulled this jacket out of the box I was like, “UM…didn’t I JUST leave feedback on how awful asymmetric jackets look on busty girls?!” and kind of glared at it for a while. I really didn’t even want to try it on because I was convinced that I’d look like a busty heifer. I was pleasantly surprised though that when I actually tried this top on…it looks kinda cute. Right? Or am I fooling myself? I like that the two zippers on the front are working zippers, so you can wear the jacket zipped asymmetrically or straight up the middle. I think this could be really cute as a more badass version of a work suit jacket. Do you think I should buy this one?

After trying everything on with my clothes, I’m strongly considering purchasing the black and white dolman sleeve top and the asymmetric jacket. I have until Friday to make my final decisions though… which is why I’d love to know what you think. Feel free to use this snazzy voting tool or just leave your comments below.

11/21/13 Update: Thank you so much to everyone who gave feedback! I ended up purchasing the black and white BATGIRL top from this Fix. I was on the fence on the asymmetrical jacket… but after trying it on for the 10,000th time, the zipper stuck and I figured it was a sign that I should pass. I already scheduled my next fix for December and requested a holiday party dress and all fun tops!
