My November Stitch Fix Review

My current rule about Stitch Fix is that if someone uses my code and I earn a referral credit, then I’ll go ahead and order a Fix. I figure, even if I don’t keep anything from the Fix it’s still fun… so that $20 is basically payment for a silly blog post of me trying on clothes. Someone clickity-clicked in October, so here I am with a November Fix!

As a little reminder, I’ve gotten 4 Fixes in 2017 and have kept 1 item.
{If you want to see ALL my Fixes, you can find them here}

I had $30 of credit in my account, so $20 went towards this Fix and I have $10 left to spend now (or later).

I was randomly assigned a stylist and her stylist note was super sweet. She REALLY did her homework on what I like to wear:

Want to see what I got?

Let’s check out each piece on an actual human body….

Item #1: Kut from the Kloth Benter Mixed Material Top, $58
Item #2: Edyson Hampton Skinny Corduroy, $68

When I saw this top on the preview, I was pretty convinced that I’d hate it. I’m usually not a fan of when they try to mix materials in the same piece of clothing. However, my opinion totally changed when I tried it on. The middle floral section is a super soft, silky fabric and the sleeves are more of a lightweight sweater knit. It is very comfortable and even has a little extra room for a Thanksgiving food baby.

As for the skinny corduroy pants, I’m always a little confused on whether corduroy’s would be acceptable for business casual, or if they are to be just for weekends? I have to say though, I LOVE these pants. They fit really great and the color is so pretty!

I can totally see wearing this exact outfit for Thanksgiving and Christmas get togethers, as well as a more casual work day. I can wear the pants with a lot of other items in my closet and the top will also look great with some distressed boyfriend jeans, or even a pair of trousers and a blazer for work. Both of these pieces are totally winners to me, what do you think?

Item #3: Retrod Moana Elbow Patch Pullover, $64
Item #2: Edyson Hampton Skinny Corduroy, $68

I’m not really sure what this sweater has to do with Moana, but I like the elbow patches on it. The oatmeal color is really pretty and it has a cool twisted-seam thing going on as well. Those pants though… bring on all the heart eyes!

Item #4: 41Hawthorn Cristen Shirt Dress, $78

Do I look like I’m freezing in this picture? Because I totally am freezing in this picture. It was 34* and breezy on my front porch… brrr! I actually pinned this exact dress on my pinterest page. I liked the print of the fabric, as well as the sleeve length. I felt like it would look good with bare legs and sandals, as well as paired with some fleece-lined tights and booties for when it is colder. Shirt dresses don’t always work on me though, because I need a little extra tummy and booty room… I was cautiously optimistic when I went to try this one on. And just cautious, because it kind of sucks to get stuck inside a piece of clothing.

This one buttons all the way up the front though, and was surprisingly roomy in the bust. I’m 5’7” and I do feel like this is a little short on me. The last button is not at the very bottom of the hem… so when you walk or sit you can certainly see some leg. It might be okay with tights underneath though, or maybe a slip.

Item #1: Kut from the Kloth Benter Mixed Material Top, $58
Item #2: Edyson Hampton Skinny Corduroy, $68

Item #5: Liverpool Bradford Moto Denim Jacket, $98

Darn you Stich Fix and your adorable jackets! I kept repeating to myself that I don’t need another lightweight jacket, but this is probably my most favorite moto jacket I’ve ever tried on. The black denim is super stretchy and when zipped up it doesn’t straight-jacket my boobs. I’m actually kind of obsessed with this whole outfit together.

Here’s the jacket zipped closed:

My Final Thoughts
When I first tried everything from this Fix on, I got that shopping adrenaline flowing through me and thought that this might be one of those elusive buy-it-all Fixes. The stylist did a fantastic job of choosing pieces for me that not only are my style, but will mix in with other things that I already own. When I went back and tried everything on again, I got super nit-picky about it all and narrowed it down to three favorites: The Edyson skinny corduroys, the Kut From the Kloth Benter top and the Liverpool Moto Denim Jacket.

As much as I LOVE the moto jacket, I do have this one that kind of serves the same ‘lightweight but badass jacket’ need in my closet… so should I let it go?

Help me decide!

Should I get:
a. All three: The skinny corduroys, floral top and moto jacket.
b. Just the skinny corduroys and the floral top.
c. Just the corduroys.
d. Some other mix.

11/16/17 Update: Thank you all for your feedback! It was a difficult choice, but I decided to go with ‘B’ and just purchase the skinny corduroys and the floral top. I even wore them to work yesterday!

My September Stitch Fix: A “Fall Transition” Fix

If you’ve been reading along for a while, you may have noticed that things have gone quite quiet on the Stitch Fix subject. After 11 Fixes in 2014, 12 Fixes in 2015, and 7 Fixes in 2016… I only had 2 Fixes in 2017. I had actually given up on the whole Stitch Fix thing (because I love thrifting and Trunk Club). However, they must have noticed so they mailed me a ‘try a Fix for free’ postcard a few weeks ago. With nothing to lose, I decided to go ahead an order myself a ‘Fall Transition Fix’. I mean, it IS my birthday month. So, treat yo self and all that.

For my September Stitch Fix, I picked the category of “seasonal refresh” and left this stylist note:

Fall is my favorite season and I’m turning 40 in September, so let’s do an all Fall transitional weather fix. I pinned some new items on my board and updated my profile. You can see how I typically dress on my instagram at PocketfulofJoules.

Going into it, I did not have high hopes for the Fix. Want to see what I got?

Looks pretty, right? My stylist totally nailed the whole fall transition feeling and I love the colors she stuck with!

Let’s break down each piece…

Item #1: Octavia Clyde Mixed-Material Tote, $68
This color of this tote is so pretty and I really like the whole mixed-material look and the snazzy tassels. It’s a little larger than I typically use, but there is an option to fold it over and use a cross-body strap (see next photo for folded option). The leather/suede feels very expensive too… especially for a $68 bag. With that being said, I don’t actually need a fall/winter purse. If you’re looking for a larger purse, you might want to request this one.

Item #2: Daniel Rainn Gardenia Crochet Detail Top, $68
While I usually like the style of a lot of Daniel Rainn blouses, I’ve mentioned before that I find it very hard to pay full price for them when I can pop by Nordstrom Rack and find hundreds of options for less than $30 (proof). This one is a pretty floral on a brown background with a crochet detail around the top. It is cute and I love the ¾ sleeves, but it’s just not an amazing piece that would anything different to my closet.

Item #3: Kut from the Kloth Simmons Bootcut Jean, $88
I love that bootcut jeans are making a comeback and Kut from the Kloth is one of those brands that typically fit me well. However, I purchased a pair of bootcut jeans in my February Trunk from Trunk Club (you can see them here). Since I already have a pair of bootcut jeans that I love, I don’t really need these.

Item #4: Liverpool Nereus Quilted Panel Denim Jacket, $98
I like the idea of a lightweight jacket and this one like a sweatshirt and a denim jacket had a baby. Also, it has thumb holes… which I love! I like the feminine fitted shape, the cool textured pattern down the center, and the pockets that you can actually use. The only thing I don’t really like about it is that the top collar area kind of stabs me in the neck. The jacket also feels a little too ‘sportswear’ for me to justify the price tag, but if you are into the athleisure look you might love this!

Item #5: Leota Seraphina Textured Knit Dress, $118
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that a fit-and-flare dress is totally my jam. This one is extra great with a scoop neck and sleeves. This dress is also incredibly similar to a dress that I already own (the floral jacquard dress from this post). Its super confusing though, because the app shows the front of the dress as a scoop neck, but the actual dress has the tag on the scoop area… meaning that should be the back? I found the plus-sized version at Nordstrom and it shows the dress on properly. I prefer it ‘backwards’ though with a lower (more flattering) neckline. I paired it with a gold braided belt and my thrifted leopard print heels. I went back and forth on this dress a few times, but ultimately decided that I don’t totally LOVE it so it’s going back.

My Final Thoughts
To be honest, I’m actually really impressed with this Fix. My randomly-assigned stylist (Jenn) did a great job in listening to what I wanted and provided a nice Fix that could mix in well with the rest of my closet. Of course, she had no way of knowing that I already own some similar items. If I were still in the ‘building my wardrobe’ phase, I would have purchased the entire Fix. However, at this point in my shopping I’m getting super picky so that I only add items that I love. As much as I like to ‘treat myself’ this whole Fix is going back. I think Stitch Fix is a great option for those who don’t really know what they want, but at this point in my life I have developed a pretty good sense of what looks good (and doesn’t look good) on me, so I think that it’s time for me to give up on trying to make Stitch Fix work for me.

Do you think I made the right decision on this Fix?

My March 2017 Stitch Fix: Prints for Spring

When I last posted about Stitch Fix in January, I was kind of disappointed in my Fix, but ended up with a sweater that I really liked. Well, somebody else used my referral code, so I figured let’s do this thing again! I mean, even if it sucks… it’s still fun, right?

I clicked around on the #stitchfix tag on Instagram and saw that a lot of people were posting some fabulous springy florals and I wanted to get in on that. So, when I ordered my Fix, here’s what I told my stylist:

“I’m seeing lots of beautiful springy floral tops and maxi dresses on the Stitch Fix hashtag on Instagram, so let’s do a whole Fix of those! Think Boho!”

I was hoping that by not getting set on particular items, like I did in January my expectations would be lower and I’d be more open-minded to what was sent over.

Want to see what I got?

Item #1: Brixon Ivy Sylvester Split Neck Blouse, $54

While this isn’t a springy floral, I actually do have a need for some solid colored blouses to wear to work. This has a flowy fit and the sleeves are sewn into that tab-sleeve look that I like. I think it’s pretty styled with both jeans and a skirt, but it’s a little stiff in the shoulders area. I’d also prefer a different color…maybe something more jewel toned? All in all, it’s okay but not a winner.

Item #2: Gilli Tahj 2fer Knit Maxi Dress, $78

It looks like I’m standing crooked, but I’m totally not. It’s the wonky fabric placement on the bottom half of this dress. It’s such a shame, because the top is cute and the maxi dress has promise, but the fabric on the bottom is SO UGLY and also feels like super thin swimsuit material. This one was very easy to throw back into the return box!

Item #3: Napean Sea RD Dazzie Henley Style Blouse, $58

I didn’t realize that this top was transparent until I saw my white belly shining through in the photos. I like the three-quarter sleeves and super flowy cut of this top, but I don’t love the pattern or the fact that I’d have to double up with a shirt underneath.

Item #4: Daniel Rainn Albado Crew Neck Blouse, $58

I do have a love for Daniel Rainn, but it’s so hard for me to justify paying full price for the brand considering that I can buy a similar top at Nordstrom Rack for $20 – $25 (see!). So it’s good that I don’t love this blouse. The pattern is pretty and is totally great for spring, but the neckline comes up so high that it is uncomfortable on me. Also, there is nothing special about it at all to justify the $58 price tag.

Item #5: Pixley Eisenhower Strappy Top, $48

Here’s another fun patterned top like I want for spring, however this one has spaghetti straps which really confuse the whole bra situation. I could totally do what the cool kids are doing and wear a lacy bra meant to be seen… but I’m 39 years old. So, no. It looks okay with the sweater, but to be honest I feel like I could buy something similar for $5 at Forever 21.

My Final Thoughts
Well, it was another underwhelming Fix from Stitch Fix. I hate just throwing away that $20 styling fee, but I also hate buying stuff that I never want to wear. So, it looks like everything from this Fix is going back into the return box.

Do you think I made the right choice?
